The product is great IF you buy it at a store. My mistake was to order this out of necessity online…it arrived with broken lids on and there seems to be no way of getting replacements sent. I needed these to pack up things and seal them so I just tapped up the lids so I could proceed with packing. Unfortunate that they arrived broken. Mostly a shipping issue.

The lid broke and I can not replace just the lid. Ill have to fins another product were the top is more sturdy. Sucks because other then the lid issue its a good file box.

While this says it is 18-1/2" long, this is very deceptive. on each side is a decorative piece of plastic, and they are measuring this into the size - but it is on the sides of this box, so it is basically 2 inches shorter on each side, meaning it's more like 14" long. Inside is the same - there is plastic to hang files, and that takes up space, so if you are looking for a box 18-1/2" long to have something that size fit inside here, look elsewhere. Sterlite, this is deceptive and wrong - the box should be measured from the inside so people can buy the correct size for what they need, NOT adding decorative plastic past those dimensions and counting that.

Hello Barbie28311, the dimensions listed on our website and labels are the measurements taken from the widest points of the product, typically the lid or top, and include any protrusions such as latches. Inside bottom dimensions are smaller as the product tapers downward. This is the universal method for measuring housewares. We are very sorry to hear the File Box did not meet your size expectations. Why do the lids shrink in size? very odd. I suppose if I had kept them connected to the bins, it would not happen, but I have 3 letter bins, and the tops almost fit, but the last corner won't snap in! clearly, they shrunk! I tried to soak in water to see if that helped, but no luck

Lids are brittle, broke within a day of getting it home. Bumped into something and cracked into multiple pieces. The main box is better, but without a lid, it's not much use.

I was looking for this type of hanging file box to store my graduate school course notes in. After shopping the usual office supply stores and finding their selection costing more than I wanted to invest in the project, I came across the Sterilite model 1868 for a reasonable price. The quality wasn't the same as ones costing 2-3 times as much, but these are not designed for the abuse that offices give their files. So, I purchased four and packed them up. They are full and pretty heavy. Stacked three high in the closet. As others have noted, the lids are pretty flimsy, so we will see how they manage the weight over time. I may be pushing the limit on what this box and lid are designed to handle. Probably two high would be better, but don't have the space. I am hoping that being indoors in a climate controlled closet, they will last a few years. I am hoping not to find cracks and breaks.

This is the best product for storing papers. I fit letter size and with gentle folding so as not to crease I even store legal and tabloid size. and they stack nicely without falling into each other. very strong. water rppof, bug proof. it's just the best paper storage box on the market!

I bought these at a local store and they came with clear lids. I loved the fact that the clear box and lid allowed me to see which files were in which box at a glance. Now I can only find black lids and miss being able to evaluate the contents at a glance. Is there any possible way to order these with clear lids?

This week I bought several of these file boxes to transfer my office files to our new home. I especially like that the 18.5 x 14 x 11 inch dimensions can handle either letter or legal sized files and are also designed to accommodate standard as well as or hanging files. The see-through plastic is very convenient, too. Unfortunately the lid is made from a particularly brittle type of plastic and breaks extremely easily. When I picked up the black lid to close the box, it slipped from my hand and shattered into several pieces. I don't know if the clear box is also prone to shatter as easily since I didn't drop one and don't intend to test it, but I will handle them very carefully in future to avoid future breakage.

This is cheap, durable, excellent quality, multiuse , and not just to file cabinet, I found Xmas stuff saver too, clothes saver and much more. This would be awesome if Sterilite create a CABINET with this drawers. I definitely buy it.

These are the features which had me purchase several: * The grip is comfortable for carrying. * The size is good. * They stack together well. * The lid has a snug, but not super tight, fit. * Files hang freely, but without too much play. (Easy to insert and remove file folders. Papers don't slide out the sides.) * The absence of openings. (Reduces chance of bugs and rodents inhabiting tote.) Things I would have preferred: * A solid color, rather than it being transparent, to reduce UV damage. ALSO! If this came in a size which accommodated scrapbook pages....I'd be in heaven!

I have purchased these clear plastic file boxes because I like to instantly see what I have in a box. Most of my purchases have been to place file folders in and keep personal paperwork separated and saved. It is just the right size perfect for placing my paperwork in order and dust free. The size of container is a good size to place in my closet. Highly recommend for this use.
