A: Just purchased 2 of these lamps and the answer to your question is: BOTH--- One works with a 3 way bulb on low, medium, and high. The other one is just on/off even with 3 way bulb! Go figure.

This is a beautiful, high quality lamp. I love the large ceramic base style and the olive green is really pretty. The only con is that the white lampshade is much more of an off-white in person, so if you’re trying to match it with anything that’s a true white, the colors will look off.
