Kwikset Halo Touch Fingerprint Smart Door Lock

I have had this product for over 3 years, and it has been rock-solid. I love being able to lock with a touch and unlock with a fingerprint and fallback to a key, just in case. I loaded my kids' prints in the lock and they can come and go as needed (plus I can see when they do ;) ). I have to change the batteries every 4 weeks or so, but that's no big deal to me. Just bought some rechargeables and swap them out. The one thing that is important is ensuring that you line the strike plate with the deadbolt as perfectly as possible. If it rubs against the lock when unlocking and locking, it can really reduce battery life since the motor works harder to lock; and the extra strain will likely reduce the lock's life.

I bought one of these and liked it so much I bought a second. At first, they were great. Then after a couple of months, they started "forgetting" the thumbprint signatures. A couple of firmware updates came out, installed them fine, but that failed to correct the issue. Older people, like my wife and I, have lower contrast fingerprints. Any moisture at all, or any dirt or dust on your hands--like when you really need to get inside and the weather has drenched you, forget the prints and dig out the keys--if you have them handy. It wasn't just us, my 10 year old grandson had issues, too. I am a real fan of Kwikset--I have 5 doors full of them--but this lock is a design failure, in my opinion. Pulled them off my doors and bought Kwikset locks with number pads. Lost the smart wifi feature, which was nice, but won't get locked out again.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This has been an excellent lock so far. Kwikset phone support was super helpful in resolving an issue I had while installing the lock. The lock didn't retract the deadbolt the whole way and I was afraid to proceed further into the installation process out of fear it might damage the lock since it wasn't turning the whole way but it turned out proceeding to the next step in the instructions to perform the lock handing sequence is exactly what I needed to do to resolve that. Pros: *No outside keypad to be tampered with *Works with Alexa and Google Home so you can setup an auto lock schedule (i.e. 9pm every night) *Sturdy metal construction has a high-quality feel Cons: *Not as easy to add temporary users since they have to be present to program their fingerprint into the system as opposed to setting up a temporary PIN number for them with a keypad lock. *Doesn't recognize fingerprints if your fingers are wet or wrinkled from being in a pool or the rain *Still waiting for Kwikset to create a Halo Touch fingerprint lock in a "lever" version for an inside garage door where there is no existing deadbolt and it's not convenient to install one.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am all about having a smart house and this is one item we needed. It takes about an hour to install. We now have the lil kids. Ages 7 and 9 using their finger prints and not having to have a key ever. Accidental lock out. Easy peasy. I wish it had an automation for it. Say like auto lock at 9pm every night.

So I was very intrigued when I heard about a Wi-Fi Enabled Smart Lock for your front door. I asked my handy neighbor guy for help in installing this for me. He really liked that when we opened the box all the parts and pieces are in their own separate little boxes and clearly labeled so he knew what went where. He was able to get this fully installed in under an hour. The part the took the longest was getting it hooked up to the home Wi-Fi and then setting up the fingerprints. (that was the reason for my 4 star rating) My 14 year old and I both programmed our prints. This will come in very handy when she wants to go somewhere and I won't have to worry about her being locked out while I am at work. I think I am also going to enable my neighbors fingerprint so that if someone needed to get in the house in case of an emergency they could get in. The app is very easy to use and install for locking the home if you happened to not remember if you locked the doors. I also love the deadbolt feature. I am happy this is part of the locking system. I was able to keep my prior deadbolt also so now feel protected with 2 deadbolts. Overall so far this has been a great, innovative feature to add to our home.

Setup is quick and easy with a guided installation through the app. The visuals are detailed and tailored to the particulars of the door (established by a series of multiple choice questions). Plus, all of the individual components come organized in numbered boxes, making the parts easy to identify and locate with each subsequent direction. You even have the option to use the key it comes with or rekey the lock so that it works with your existing key. The completed look is aesthetically pleasing. The design, shape and bronze finish are beautiful and polished. I have been using the lock for a few weeks and thus far I am impressed that it works consistently. Moreover, I love the ease of not having to search for my keys, confident that I always have a means of access on my person whether it's key, fingerprint, or phone. The effortlessness extends to locking the door; when exiting I can just tap the scanner to lock (anyone can do this, it does not have to be a registered print). Most importantly, the ease does not compromise on my feelings of safety and security. Apart from the device itself, the thing I enjoy most about the experience is the app. It is straightforward and helps keep the details organized. I can set up profiles for 50 users with multiple recorded prints per user. It also allows me to tailor the access of individual profiles by hours, date, or weekday and time. It allows me to check on the status of the lock remotely and adjust accordingly. It also maintains an activity log and identifies whose fingerprint was used to open/lock the door. The app can also be used to pair with Google Assistant and to set up an auto-lock feature. If that wasn't enough, the app includes a battery icon that informs me of how much battery life is left on the lock. Initially, I was frustrated by the alert on the lock anytime the door was locked/unlocked, but found that the chime was easily silenced by an option in the app. The only issue I encountered was an inability to register my son's fingerprint. Granted, his fingers are small and don't cover the scanner in its entirety. Presumably, as he grows, this problem will be eliminated. Truth be told, this is not my first foray into the world of smart locks. However, this is so easily integrated into the existing setup that it is hands down the best experience I've had with a product of this variety and would be the first brand I'd recommend.

What a shame you couldn’t feature compatibility with Apple’s HomeKit technology?! How sad such a great product had such great potential,

It has an amazing fingerprint unlock that is accessible and easy to manage. We cna store up to I believe 50 fingerprints too which is really nice so we didnt have to hand out any keys! It's very modern looking and definitely adds some value to our home, and a sense of added security.

I also love how you can set up multiple people and you can set up a time frame. This is really useful if you have someone coming to visit for a short period of time and don't want to give them a key. It is also good if you have kids coming home during certain times of the day, so you can give them access during that time. I also love that you can unlock and lock it remotely, and check to see if it is locked or not. It was pretty easy to set up. The instructions are written well, and the App also helps you set it up. The only issue I found is on a couple of my younger kids, the finger print did not work the first time, so we had to program it twice. Overall, I would highly recommend this lock to anyone looking for a deadbolt lock.

I’ve had it for a couple of weeks & am impressed so far. Being able to install it myself within 15 minutes was a plus. It’s not complicated & has a sleek design which looks great on my door. I had to setup an account to get my locked connected to my WiFi which was easy as well. It’s simple & intuitive and I like being able to control my lock remotely using WiFi without having to get an additional controller to make everything work. I was able to set up additional access codes for my family & it can even be set to only use on certain days if you have visors etc. It’s great to that if I accidentally forget my keys or lock myself out all I have to do is use my fingerprint.

No more standing out in the cold fumbling with keys and frustrating locks! You just put your finger up there, and voila, you're inside the comfort of your home! I worried it would be hard to install, but it couldn't be easier! It has 4 AA batteries so there is no hard wiring to worry about, and it's basically just screwing it on! You can lock your door from anywhere with an easy to install app, and even use Alexa or Google Assistant to control the lock as well! It's been so convenient for me to simply ask Alexa if the door is locked rather than have to get up at night after I have gone to bed and worried that I didn't lock the door! With Smart Key security you don't have to worry about break ins, and can even re key your lock easily. Best of all, The venetian bronze lock is beautiful and really adds an element of style to my door. I couldn't be happier with it!

The fingerprint setup went well also. It's amazing to see how much security we have with just the use of a fingerprint. The smart lock recognizes really well also. This lock was super easy to install and the directions were easy to follow. We had it installed in 15 minutes. The app that works with this lock was simple to find in the app store and registration was a breeze. The app prompts were easy to understand and syncing with our new lock happened efficiently. Features I love are: •lock is wifi capable •being able to unlock/lock my door without digging for my key •being able to unlock/lock the door through my phone •being able to track who is locking/unlocking the door •the beautiful look of the lock itself •being alerted through my phone when the lock is unlocked/locked The only thing that was slightly frustrating with this product is sometimes it loses its wifi connection and sometimes the app glitches or force closes. Updates to the app would be beneficial. Overall, I'm very happy with the Kwikset Halo Fingerprint Lock.
