A: the description of the product under "details" states that each shelf will hold up to 100 pounds, for a total of 500 pounds for the 5 tier shelving unit, not 40 pounds per shelf.

Q: What size bins can be used on the shelves? 5?, 5 wide?

A: Thank you for your question. There is a wide version which has a depth of 17.9" and width of 35.9" and the slim has a depth of 11.8" with a width of 23.9". The space between each shelf is 14.8".
