I like the look of the clock and it keeps time well in the few days I've had it. Don't let the word, "birchwood" fool you; there is not a speck of wood in this clock. It's only the style of the face. All the structure materials are 100% plastic. Still, I am not too upset since it is made in the USA by legally blind workers at Chicago Lighthouse....so I would look at the premium paid as supporting those employees.
