Q: Do they work on glass

submitted by Leigh - 5 years ago
  • A: Yes. Not as well as liquid chalk, but they are usable.

submitted bylindalou - 5 years ago
  • A: Thanks for asking, Leigh! We haven't tested them to be used on glass specifically, so we are unsure of its results. For best results, use on porous surfaces, such as copy paper, poster board or construction paper. Non-porous surfaces, such as canvas board, will add to your dry time. Hope this helps!

Q: Can these be used as face paint?

submitted by Sophia - 2 years ago
  • A: Hi Sophia, although Crayola products are nontoxic, we do not recommend using them as face paint and strongly discourage using them this way. Crayola art products are not intended to be used on the skin or face.

Q: Can these be used on a blackboard?

submitted by j1alma - 4 years ago
  • A: Great question! Crayola Project Quick-Dry Paint Sticks work best on porous surfaces, and do have colorants that may stain. If you were looking to wash it off the blackboard to create different designs, this might not be the best fit for you. Please contact us at 1-800-CRAYOLA for any further questions. Have a colorful day!

Q: How does this wash off on tables? Also, can this be used to draw on pumpkins?

submitted by chigrlxqt - 5 years ago
  • A: Thanks for asking! As stated on product packaging, Crayola Quick-Dry Paint Sticks contain colorants that may stain. We'd suggest protecting surfaces before creating. As far as pumpkin decorating, we haven't tested this product specifically to be used on them, and cannot guarantee its results. We'd suggest trying a small, inconspicuous area to determine if it will work for you. Hope this helps!

Bright colors, easy to use, forever to dry

3 out of 5 stars
MamaCrocigator - 1 year ago, Verified purchaser
It says they dry in 60 seconds, but that’s only on poster board. My daughter used them on a wood project and it’s still tacky a day later. They are fun and easy to use with thick saturated coverage. I’m just not sure what I’m going to use them on now. I don’t trust them to dry in time to use them for Cub Scouts.
1 reply from Crayola team - 1 year ago
Thank you for sharing your experience! We're glad to hear the Quick Dry Paint Sticks offer fun and ease of use. It's important to note, however, that drying times can vary based on the surface material and the thickness of the application. For the best results and quickest dry time, we recommend using Crayola Quick Dry Paint Sticks on porous surfaces such as paper, poster board, or construction paper. Non-porous surfaces, like wood or canvas, may extend the drying time. If you need further assistance or have any questions, please contact us at 1-800-CRAYOLA. We'd be happy to help! - Jazmine, Colorful Care Team

Works like a glue stick

Katie - 1 year ago, Verified purchaser
These are very similar to glue sticks. The paint is bright and dries quickly as advertised, but I don't understand where these would be useful. Like a glue stick, its almost impossible to create crisp lines or color in the lines. Its pretty much only useful if you're trying to fill in a large area. Also note that these are not washable for kids!

These are the worst!!! I really thought they'd be cleaner and more convenient than dealing with liquid paint, but they're AWFUL. As they're being used. They lose tiny clumps onto the paper, and also some smears onto the plastic tube so it gets smooshed out when you put the cap back on, so it makes the tube messy too, or the clumps fall on the floor. The worst of all is that it never truly dries 100%. No matter how long the papers sat around, the paint was still sticky. My husband stacked them up a week later, and they all stuck together; some tore a bit as I peeled apart, and colors from one page got left behind on the back of the next. I ended up just throwing all of the papers, and the sticks, all into the trash can. If you expect to display or keep any art from your kids at all, these are NOT the medium to use. Washable Crayola liquid paint is miles better to use, dry, and clean up.

Painting should be a fun activity, not a disappointing one. We are sorry to hear of your frustrating experience with Crayola Project Quick-Dry Paint Sticks. The product has been formulated to dry quicker than traditional paints, and we have found that even if using two coats of paint, the paint should dry in 60 seconds on porous surfaces. Clearly, that was not what you experienced, so we would like to learn more and help you further. Please contact us at 1-800-CRAYOLA. - Chris, Colorful Care Team

Sticky Mess

2 out of 5 stars
Thumbs down graphic, would not recommend
MommaB - 2 years ago, Verified purchaser
I bought these for my preschool class after I heard tempra paint sticks were amazing. These are not amazing. Color is vibrant. But, it’s like painting with a glue stick. They are a huge mess. I find them sticky and they are not quick drying as advertised. I end up spending way too much time wiping them down to be used again. Otherwise, everything gets covered. Trying to get kids to use them up so I don’t feel bad about the cost, but it may not be worth it! I only gave it 2 stars because the kids think they are fun.

Yikes - these “pill up” creating little paint balls as you draw and absolutely stain skin. Do not recommend. This review coming to you live from my bathroom as I bathe my 3yo after playing with these and getting paint on his hands, feet, my table, my hands… Try the Target brand - they’re fantastic.

I don’t know what I expected form this product. Do not over use and express to dry layer in thin layers and let dry fully or runs the chance of being very sticky. Would be good to use with young kids who have a better sense of motor control due to the nasty feeling. If an adult skip this product. And I love crayola.

Messier than regular paint

Jenny - 3 years ago, Verified purchaser
So these are a really interesting concept. They’re supposed to be like paint sticks but I’m really unsure what they are. They paint almost like a thick paste and I don’t find they dry. My toddler loves these but they were messier than regular paint. I swear after months the paint still rubs off of the things that were painted.
1 reply from Crayola team - 3 years ago
Hi, Jenny! Quick-Dry Paint Sticks are designed to be a less-mess option than traditional paint. We are sorry that wasn't your experience. The paint should dry in 60 seconds with a one-pass, thin layer and have a smooth, slick lay down on poster board. Additional layers applied will increase the dry time, but they should dry quicker than traditional paints. Our team is eager to learn more and help you further. Please contact us at 1-800-CRAYOLA. Pretty but a mess

1 out of 5 stars
Tiredteacher - 3 years ago
originally posted on crayola.com
I’m a preschool teacher and my kids tried this out last week. It goes on (and comes out) like a glue stick. The color is very pretty and vibrant. However, all my students were upset that the “blue” one was actually quite purple. So I don’t know what happened there, color professionals… Anyway, it never really dries and it transfers on to other things. Most notably hands and tables and somehow the floor. I was finding red around my classroom for the whole week. Good news is that it’s washable, so it came clean when I found it again and again. The sticks get sticky and messy just like glue sticks and we decided it was easier to throw them away rather than try to salvage them. Also, a lot of my kids had trouble initially opening them and the resulting mess made that even more difficult. Tl;dr cute idea, not worth the mess

When I saw they were called “paint sticks” I expected them to be a paint consistency, but they’re more like crayons meet glue stick and waxy. It’s not what I was looking for but maybe it’s what others would be looking for.

If you liked drawing with glue sticks as a kid, then these are for you! If not, don’t buy these. They’re wet, messy, and, as said before, like drawing with a glue stick.
1 reply from Crayola team - 3 years ago
Your frustration with the Crayola Project Quick-Dry Paint Sticks is understandable. These water-based, soft, solid paint sticks should dry quicker than traditional paints with less mess. We're sorry that wasn't your experience. We've found that less is best - only one or two coats required for nonporous surfaces. The average drying time should be 60 seconds. This could be prolonged in humid environments or if additional coats of color are added. Our Consumer Care Team is eager to learn more about this issue and help further. Please contact us at 1-800-CRAYOLA. Hope to hear from you soon!

Not mess free or quick dry

Readinggirl - 3 years ago, Verified purchaser
These are NOT quick dry or mess free. They are very sticky and waxy and my almost two year olds quickly had it everywhere. I should have heeded the other reviews. Just stick with paint. It’s honestly less mess. It ends up all over their hands regardless. The colors are nice and vibrant but it doesn’t come off evenly at all. Just get the dot a dot markers instead.

Oh no! We would have hoped that creative time with the Crayola Project Quick Dry Paint Sticks would result in colorful fun. We're sorry that wasn't your experience. They should dry quicker than traditional paints, keeping in mind that adding additional layers will increase the drying time. Although this wasn't the best product for your young Picasso, we have other options like the Crayola Stage 1 Washable Fingerpaint Kit.
