Q: Why are these not washable when it states they are on the packaging and your advertising. I bought theses today. My 4 year old granddaughter just used these and nothing is washing off her fingers.

submitted by Diane Doody - 3 years ago
  • A: I'm sorry to hear that you experienced staining with your Paint Brush Pens. Although Crayola washable products are water-based and designed to wash from skin and nearly all children's clothing, the dyes and pigments included in Crayola washable products react differently to various skin types, depending on a person's body chemistry. Normally, Crayola washable products can be removed from the skin by washing with soap and water. If you are unsuccessful with soap and water, try using baby wipes, baby oil or make-up remover. Since Crayola washable products are water-based, you may find that keeping the area moist with water will help to lift the stain. If you should need further assistance, please feel free to contact us at 1-800-CRAYOLA.

Q: Are there any allergens in these paint brushes? Soy? Milk? Egg? etc.

  • A: Thanks for reaching out! Although the exact ingredients in our products are proprietary, we can provide a list of the most common ingredient requests NOT FOUND in products currently manufactured by Crayola. This list does not apply to licensed products, such as Crayola-brand bath, personal care, or food items, which are manufactured by licensing partners. Please check the back of packaging for manufacturer details or contact us with any questions. Since multiple Crayola products are produced in the same manufacturing facilities and on the same machinery, there is a slight chance of cross-contamination. While the protocols we follow are proprietary, I can confirm the machinery used to manufacture Crayola products is cleaned between production runs in a manner that meets or exceeds all regulations. These are just markers. I thought they had paint inside from a glance at looking at the packet. It’s brush like markers. They are so neat and glide smoothly.

Overpriced markers, nothing more

These are overpriced markers. Hugely disappointed and wish I could take them back because they are misleading! I could have gotten 2 packs of Mondo Llama markers for the price of these and they would be just as good. There’s nothing “paint” about them.

I bought these for my son to paint with, and they immediately ran out of paint. Less that an hour and all he painted was a Christmas tree. I will say that the markers were great before they ran out.

A bit disappointing - more like a marker

Jcamp - 2 years ago
These are essentially markers that look like paint brushes. the tips are a bit flexible, but there aren't bristles like you would expect in a paint brush. I realize they're called paint brush pens, but I was hoping for more of a self contained paint brush system. On the bright side, the colors are fun and my 1.5 year old loves them, and they've been reliably washable for us!

definitely not washable. my and my daughters hands are stained. That's with washing a couple of times. I gave 3 stars because they are bright vibrant colors and my daughter seemed to enjoy them.
1 reply from Crayola team - 2 years ago
It is great to hear your daughter enjoyed creating masterpieces with the Crayola Paint Brush Pens. However, because it was difficult to remove the paint from her skin, we understand why you were not impressed with the product. This product usually does wash clean from skin with soap and water. Since you did not have success with that method, try using baby wipes or baby oil. It is water-based to keeping the skin moist will help lift the stain faster. Definitely not "ultra washable" like some Crayola products - kiddos hands were washed within 30 minutes of starting to use them, and have been washed several times since then, AND he's taken a bath and fingertips are still covered in ink. The shape of the markers did convince him to opt for them vs traditional watercolor which was convenient, briefly...but after capping then promptly and using them for maybe 5 coloring sessions, they are drying out. It's a big cost and amount of plastic waste for so little time coloring. We'll stick with traditional markers and watercolors in the future.

My two year olds colored the entire palm of both hands and this won't come off.. Tried soap and water, baby wipes, baby oil. Nothing's working at all. It's also on my hands and won't come off. Finally these are made in China not USA like other Crayola products. This is very disappointing.

Being that you are having difficulty removing the creative fun left from the Crayola Washable Paint Brush Pens, your disappointment is understandable. We are sorry for the frustration this has caused. Although it's possible the paint may react differently to various skin types, depending on a person's body chemistry, this water-based product usually cleans up easily from the skin with soap and water. Keeping the area moist will help lift the stain so we suggest you continue washing the area gently with soap and water or simply keeping the area moist with water will do wonders to remove the marks. If you need further assistance, our Consumer Care Team can be reached at 1-800-CRAYOLA.

I like how easy it is but I absolutely HATE that it is not washable. My daughters skin is stained and so are my wooden floors after washing and scrubbing multiple times. Would not recommend.
1 reply from Crayola team - 3 years ago
Thank you for sharing your review of the Crayola Washable No Drip Paint Brush Pens. This product is designed to wash clean from most launderable clothing and skin. Being that wasn't your experience, your disappointment is understandable. We are sorry for the frustration this caused. So consumers have an understanding of our product's washability, we include that information on the back of the package in the "Stain Advisement". Since creativity sometimes knows no bounds, our team has come up with cleaning tips that you may have success with. As with any of our tips, we recommend testing in an inconspicuous area to ensure you are pleased with the results. Usually, our washable products clean up from the skin with soap and water. If that is not successful, we suggest using baby wipes or baby oil. Moisture is key, so repeated washing will remove the water-based stain. To help lift the stain from finished wood, we suggest wiping all stains with a damp sponge. If any stain remains, apply Soft Scrub with a damp sponge, work in a circular motion and rinse. If the stain persists saturate a cotton ball with alcohol and blot the stain and rinse. As an added layer of caution, it would be best to run this suggestion by the manufacturer of your wood floors to ensure the materials we are suggesting will be effective on this surface. If you need further assistance, please contact our Consumer Care Team at 1-800-CRAYOLA. - Chris, Colorful Care Team
