Book Synopsis
THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT! An addictive must-read mystery with shades of Serial and Making a Murderer about an investigation turned obsession, full of twists and turns and with an ending you'll never expect. Everyone in Fairview knows the story. Pretty and popular high school senior Andie Bell was murdered by her boyfriend, Sal Singh, who then killed himself. It was all anyone could talk about. And five years later, Pip sees how the tragedy still haunts her town. But she can't shake the feeling that there was more to what happened that day. She knew Sal when she was a child, and he was always so kind to her. How could he possibly have been a killer? Now a senior herself, Pip decides to reexamine the closed case for her final project, at first just to cast doubt on the original investigation. But soon she discovers a trail of dark secrets that might actually prove Sal innocent . . . and the line between past and present begins to blur. Someone in Fairview doesn't want Pip digging around for answers, and now her own life might be in danger. And don't miss the sequel, Good Girl, Bad Blood! The perfect nail-biting mystery. --Natasha Preston, #1 New York Times bestselling authorReview Quotes

I was recommended to read this book from a friend. It took me a little bit to get into it however once I got into it, I was able to figure out the twist fairly easily. I know there are other books in this series however I was pretty content just reading the first book.

I have NEVER been a book person in my life. I had been wanting to read this book for a while and oh my god, I think this made me a book person. I finished it in one night and did NOT want to put it down! There had been no book that I didn't want to put down till now, I cannot wait to purchase the second book!! If you are hesitant about getting this book or not, do not overthink and just get it. Some plots of the book can make you said/cry like how Pippa's dog (Barney) drowns. Overall this book is a must buy!!
The turns keep coming!

This book definitely took another turn right when you thought it was done, and it still seemed to fit and to not be thrown in! The true ending to it that you didn’t see coming. There were a few moments that were almost cringy (high school things as an adult reader), but it was still a really good book.
Great Ending! ... Boring Lead Up

As an avid mystery fan, this book was okay. The beginning was difficult to get through. Much of the same thing happening over and over again. Pip interviews someone, she second guessed her initial thoughts, and then finds someone else to interview. It’s a bit immature as well. For such a mature plot line, I would expect more extreme details like threats on a person’s life not threatening to kill their dog, and more than holding hands and a quick peck on the lips as far as romance goes. This COULD be a really good book. The last few chapters were much better as they included a few more dangerous scenarios, but still, felt like more of a hallmark movie than a murder mystery. The book felt almost PG rated even though the details surrounding the murder were not. After reading the reviews on here about the rest of the series, I will go ahead and give them a try. It had a great ending but trying to get through the other 2/3 of the book was difficult. Also, please keep in mind that this book was originally published in the UK and edited to American vernacular, but there are still some UK colloquialisms that slipped through the cracks making it sound a bit less natural.

So I've been reading a lot lately, and I recently stumbled across something called "BookTok" while I was searching for new books to add to my TBR collection. I don't use TikTok (or much social media in general), but I quickly discovered hoards of short videos where people share their favorite current reads. That's where I found A Good Girl's Guide to Murder (among other books). I did enjoy this story - the character development, and the unexpected twist at the end. I wanted to give it 5 stars, but... (and hate me if you want), but I had to take away some points for details. I am an American, living in the U.S. In fact, I grew up in New England, not far from where this book was set in Connecticut. Americans do NOT sign their text messages with "Xx" and they never use the word "fancy" instead of "like." I have never fancied anyone in my entire life. These details are super important to continuity, and I have a harder time immersing myself in a story when those details are not consistent. When I read, I'm trying to get lost in the story, picture myself right there with those characters. But every now and then, I found myself in the U.K. and having to be reminded that these characters are supposed to be suburban Americans. Don't authors have editors or publicists or someone to help catch these errors? Other than that, I enjoyed this book and I would definitely be interested in reading something else by Holly Jackson.
Great story.

Great story, kept me going back to the beginning to make sure I read it right, or if there were any clues. I can't wait to read the next book.
