THIS BOOK. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, needs to read it. Fantasy and magic is not typically my jam, and neither is historical romance - so HOW did this shoot all the way up to one of my top books of the year?? Because Sophie Lark is an actual magician herself, that’s how. The queen of dark mafia romance took on a retelling of Anastasia that gives her the HEA she deserved, and it is epic. The historical accuracy is unmatched (hi, I have a BA in US/European History!) and the fantasy world she creates is truly incredible. I struggle with fantasy because I want to escape into a book right away, so world-building can be hard for me to enjoy. Not this world! Sophie sets the stage from the beginning, introducing us to Anastasia as a child and showing us the royal family through the eyes of the Tsar’s daughter. The elements of magic build over time and merge seamlessly with the historical events of the Great War and the Russian Revolution. Anastasia is an epic enemies-to-lovers tale with the most beautiful and well-deserved happy ending. Damien is a part of her from the moment they meet and together they are absolutely unstoppable. This book has dark magic, the most clever villain (why is Rasputin so hot in this book though), the hardest fought struggles, and holy mother of all PLOT TWISTS. Do you enjoy historical romance?
