Description

Clear brush, cut shoots and small branches, and accomplish light harvesting tasks with this thoughtfully crafted tool. Inspired by a traditional Japanese bush machete and constructed with heritage-quality materials, our Japanese Nata Tool unites versatile function and refined durability. The stainless steel, machete-like blade is paired with a solid steel core that runs the full length of the hardwood handle, providing both stability and added swinging weight. (Blade length: 12", Overall tool length: 21") Despite its robust construction, the tool remains thin and lightweight, making it an essential addition to any collection. The Nata Sheath is the perfect blend of utility and design, offering robust protection for your Nata Tool. Crafted from durable 900D polyester with an interior liner, it safeguards the blade from dulling during real-world use. A stainless steel belt clip ensures easy carrying and quick access, while the sturdy handle strap keeps the blade securely in place. The open-end design allows for easy cleaning, preventing soil buildup and preserving the blade’s sharpness. Accented with full-grain leather and copper, it beautifully complements our Woodsman Collection.Note: While versatile and durable, the Nata Tool is best suited for branches, vines, and kindling 2 inches or smaller in diameter. Attempting to cut through thicker logs, such as those 6 inches or more, can lead to damage and breakage.Looking for a more robust tool? The Nata Hatchet is the heavy-duty sibling, capable of cutting through branches and larger logs up to 8" in diameter.

I LOVE this thing, but...

I honestly just feel like it should be able to hold up better. First time I took it camping, the handle cracked. I was using it to hack off smaller limbs on Aspen, so not a particularly hard wood, and the tree was pretty green. I've used it many times since, and really enjoy it other wise. It's held together still, and I'll get around to purchasing a replacement handle one of these days. The fact that a replacement is available is great, but also not great. This definitely doesn't mean I'll stop using it, or that it's not one of my favorite tools.

Love the Nata, just wish they had a kydex sheath for it (ideally one with a quality design and multiple, integrated, tie down points, but any Kydex sheath is better than none!)

While it was whole, it was a great tool. Took great care of it, but it snapped at the base after just over 2 years of use. I've had much cheaper tools last much, much longer, so needless to say this was a big disappointment.

This is a durable easy to use tool that works great for clearing tough grasses and small brush from my property. Here is a video showing how my son used this tool. https://youtu.be/cm8PnkFhSEE?si=VcyudQiIHFg8IntE

So a week ago we had a racoon get into our chickens we live in town so we could not use other methods of dispatching the vermin. so while I took-up one long blade my friend took-up my Nata tool. When the racoon decided to charge at me I had already impaled the mid section of the spine, and my friend made a fatal blow to the head. splitting the skull, the Nata tool had no rolling of the blade, cracks, or chips. my friend said after that he was gonna have to get his own so he'd have one when I move out. 110% worth the money 100/10 stars!!

Got this for the purposes of chopping kindling and perhaps a few odd jobs around the yard. Not gonna lie, it also looked super cool too. After a few months of use this thing is the real deal and a great multi tool for just about anything. Seriously. I saw a social post featuring one of these and the woman was sabering a bottle of bubbly so I tried it out myself. Success! So much fun. Must try for your next social gathering. Was the hit of the night!

Got this in a subscription box. Thought it would be great to use on my property and in doing some heavier duty yard work. Maybe I am not good with machete work, because I broke it after about 4 swings. I have never had an issue with using any other, what I would consider "cheap" machetes, and my husband has this same machete. He doesn't use it frequently, but has used enough to sharpen his. Needless to say I was very disappointed when it snapped in two. And bleeding, because I stupidly tried to catch the flying end. I really do like to support smaller businesses. Sad about this review.....

Great for chopping compost!

I oversee a community garden and was puzzled about the best way to break down some large stalks (corn, sunflowers, etc) and woody material. Leaf shredders are affordable but can’t handle everything I want to shred. Heavy duty chipper/shredders are too expensive and can’t handle wetter material. For our needs, this is the perfect tool. Very sharp, just heavy enough, and so fun and satisfying to use. No issues with build quality yet. Transformed a frustrating problem into a really fun garden activity!

This blade looks great. It does hold an edge for awhile. The handle leaves a lot to desired. It roles in the hand and slides around a lot. The blade broke 2inch from the back. Looks are not everything.

I got the Nata tool through bespoke post two years ago. I carry it with my hunting and hiking. I would prefer to keep it on my belt, but the sheath routinely falls off my belt. I have to physically strap it to my backpack. The sheath needs a better belt securement and/or a leg strap.

I want to start by saying that this tool feels great in the hand, and gives short shrift to vines, saplings, and small branches. Swinging it just an all-around satisfying experience, combining the best parts of a machete and a hatchet. What keeps this from being a 5-star review is the build quality. While the handle is solid and fits my grip, the blade itself was poorly formed. I did not notice this until the first time I went to hone it, but—as shown in the attached photos—the edge wobbles slightly, which leads to it sharpening unevenly. And this was using Barebones' own Puck Sharpener! Still a good tool, but not one I can recommend unconditionally.
