Openings are 7-1/2" square to allow easy harvesting. In windy locations, we recommend anchoring with our Extra-Tall Earth Staples, sold separately.

Great product for pole beans

It is great tower for pole beans. This is second season we have used it. The only drawback is that during strong wind/storm, it can topple down if there no additional support given to it. Please use large/heavy pots on stable ground and give it additional support so that it does not topple down.
No longer a "tower"

I judge a product based on it's usefulness over time, NOT on my initial impression first season. I liked my two bean towers until the connectors that attach the top section to the bottom started cracking after a few seasons. This made it a frustrating experience trying to connect the two sections because the cracked pieces didn't hold the top to the bottom. I ended up with one wobbly tower and two half-towers (since I can no longer connect them. I tried to order replacement connectors, but Garden Supply doesn't offer them. (I suppose this is what happens when things are made in China--no 'bin' of cheap, but important parts available at the site to support the long-term use of the product.) I will not order new towers to get connectors that cost cents to manufacture. I expect more from Garden Supply.

I am so disappointed. We bought one last year mid summer and used it for our beans. Put it up this summer abs taking it down the entire thing fell apart - I know have 8 individual panels that I can't get back together. Save your money and don't buy these!

Horrible. Not the normal good gs quality. I bought 12 of these 2 years ago, was so excited based on based purchases. They are cheaper/thinner coated metal. And they constantly fall apart when putting up and taking down. And then the actual small side pieces come off too, so I have a box of what look like small stakes. Ugh! Should have bought 1 and tried first. These are garbage and I regret my purchase. Will continue to buy from GS, but not anything like this!

I read one review that said that they do not stand up to wind. I found this to be true....and I have a great fix. I anchor a concrete spike on each side, insert a nail as a stop, place a 5-foot piece of aluminum conduit over the spike. Then I tie the cage to the conduit. It will not blow over. Here in NE Florida, we get thunderstorms with 80 mph winds, and I have not had one blow over. That includes hurricanes.
Great Quality and Sturdy!

I set this up in my raised bed for my Chinese long beans. It sits pretty firmly inside and is solid. I really love how sturdy it is and it won't even rock on windy days. The beans are growing great and climbs so naturally. I can see how this could be used for a lot of different plants. I loved this so much that I bought a second one to grow another variety of yard long beans.
Many uses

I bought this to replace the trellis my blackberry vines grew against. I love it! It's sturdy and tall enough to hold these vines upright off the ground.
Excellent for growing peas/beans in a limited space.

Voracious meadow voles can't climb. So we surrounded each stand with an 8 inch high strip of hardware cloth to protect our snap pea seedlings. They grew an unprecedented 10 feet tall with an abundant crop. We are able to rotate legume plantings within one garden bed because of the stands compact footprint. Glad I bought two on sale. Will use them for pole green beans this summer and peas again next fall. My only critical comment pertains to price, which seem generally too high. I would buy more if prices were lower.

I am very pleased with how sturdy this item is because utility is what matters most to me (I am using to support fava beans). So the choice of bright red was an unexpected benefit that looks nice.
I will buy another in the spring

This is a great product that grows in height as the plant grows. Easily fits together. The materials are strong and I love the bright red color in my garden space. You may have to wait awhile to get this product but it is worth the wait. Here in So. California we can get some very hot days. The cage is great to attach a shade cloth to when protecting your plants.

I have 2 of these excellent supports for beans or peas or even tomatoes. They are super easy to set up and put into your raised bed or straight into the ground. They are the right height for pole beans and sturdy enough to hold up a full seed packet or 1 tomato plant in a windy area. The space saving design allows for 2 towers in one raised bed and makes it easy to find and pick your veggies. Watering and mulching is a breeze. I love everything about these supports and highly recommend them.

Have not tried these with anything heavy like melons etc. Had luck with small gourds, beans and tomatoes. I like that I don't have to improvise when the plants get taller.

Growing vertically saves space in the raised bed. I use it to grow pole beans. It's easy to pick outside and inside this trellis. I just ordered a second one to grow more beans. My first bean tower has held up well for 3 years.

I bought three of these and set them inside of 20 gallon grow bags which are the perfect size to hold the towers. Our beans are almost ready to pick and we are very happy with the quality so far.
