Regular bird feeders attracted too many birds on the ground and feral cats got to them too easily. This is big enough so that several birds can sit on it at one time. I love the screen bottom and how it lets water go through without flooding everything. I'm glad that it came in white to match our house and we bought a white pvc pole to match adding a metal bar inside for strength. My indoor cats love their new TV.

I was under the impression that you could order the "matching" resin leg kit and transform into a ground level feeder. Unfortunately, the resin feeder is not pre-drilled for any leg mounting whatsoever, and the resin is too tough to simply screw on the matching legs. The screws stripped within seconds of effort.

Once I got it opened up and took a closer look I'm thoroughly impressed with the attention to detail on build quality and clean materials. I'm surprised to see such sturdy and rugged material from recycled plastic. The coated metal grates are excellent to keep the bird seed dry and long-lasting while out in the rain or sun. I found a super convenient way to mount the tray using an umbrella stand from my local hardware store and a 1 1/2" pole. The best part about the umbrella stand is that it comes with a plastic grommet to keep the bird catcher platform at any height you desire (no nails or screws needed!). I was hoping to catch some photos of the local birds using the seed platform but I have outdoor cats that make them cautious. But the seed is gone in just a few days so I know the local birds are enjoying it before the cats go out in the early a.m. Overall, I love the quality and ease of use of this platform feeder and know it will last for years to come.

Sunflower seeds work best as they don’t fall through the mesh like smaller seeds. I love that it’s made of composite materials and won’t rot and can be washed clean.

We have a few different types of feeders but were wanting a platform feeder for one area of our yard and this one fit the bill (terrible pun intended). The feeder is extremely well constructed, solidly made, and can see it holding up to the elements for a very long time. I appreciate as well that it's primarily made of recycled material and it was completely straightforward to install on the pole. We're using it in conjunction with the Birds Choice Waste-Not food and it's doing a great job attracting a variety of birds for us to view! We're definitely happy with our new feeder and so are our feathered friends!

In fact they did their best to avoid our space altogether. Not even the squirrels would come by. It could be just our region but I wouldn't recommend it.
