Q: How long is Flaxseed meal good after the best used by date (1-9-2018)

submitted by Sharon - 7 years ago
  • A: Try storing it in the freezer if you want a longer life!

submitted byPOlson - 6 years ago
  • A: At room temperature, whole flaxseed can last for six months past the written expiration date on the package, while ground flaxseed only has a shelf life of about a week past the written expiration date. ... Flaxseed contains delicate omega-3 fatty acids that can go rancid rapidly. If you are trying to obtain the benefits of flaxseed, I recommend just purchasing a new batch for the best potency.

submitted byMoy Young - 6 years ago

Q: Does this have to be stored in the refrigerator? Is refrigerating for longevity or quality? If it is consumed within 3 to 4 weeks, would the quality be less if not refrigerated?

submitted by amazing - 8 years ago
  • A: It is highly recommended to purchase ground flaxseeds that are in a vacuum-sealed package or have been refrigerated since once flaxseeds are ground, they are much more prone to oxidation and spoilage.

Q: When it is ground up, doesn’t it lose some of its nutritional value like omega-3s, etc.?

submitted by MR - 9 months ago
  • A: Hello and thank you for your question. Our Flaxseed Meal is ground slowly to ensure that the meal is not heated and this preserves all of the nutrients present in the flax. Nothing is removed before grinding.

Q: What does it mean by flax seed meal, is it in form of ground powder?

submitted by PS - 10 months ago
  • A: Our Flaxseed Meal is made by grinding whole flaxseeds into a consistency similar to cornmeal or whole wheat flour. It's not quite as fine as a powder though. We hope you love our Flaxseed Meal if you try it!

I use this in my oats for breakfast and it’s a great way to get in omega 3. It is not exactly a fine powder, which is fine with me, but some may be put off by the texture. I also use this as a egg substitute in baking mixed with water. Very good!

    Target was Amazing

I had just hosted an all-day breakfast thru dinner event for my large family on Christmas Day and I was exhausted. I had some last minute guests who were going to arrive the next morning, one of whom is a vegetarian and has severe allergies to just about everything. I wanted to fix a meal that everyone could enjoy but all of my recipes had something in them that my guest was allergic to. At 7:00 AM, I started searching the internet for replacement items that I could cook with. Target was the only store that I could do an online order for the 4 items that I needed - non-dairy butter, milk and cheese. I was also able to order buckwheat meal. Who would have guessed that Target was the place??? By 10:00, I was notified that my order was ready for pick-up. The whole process was fabulous and my early lunch was a success! Thank you Target!

We use flaxseed meal as an egg replacer for baking since we have an allergy to eggs. It works great for flaxseed flour, too. Bob's Red Mill is a high-quality product.

I really like the GF Flaxseed Meal! It tastes good, a slight nutty type flavor, not obvious in smoothies or oatmeal. I gradually increased the amount called for to see how my body would react. No problem for the stomach. Yay!! It helps regulate your body. I had stomach pain a lot. Not any more, since going Gluten free!! Thank you Mr. Bob and fellow employees for a great product!!

I love mixing in a couple of tablespoons of ground flaxseed to my morning oatmeal. It adds a delicious nutty flavor. I've also used flaxseed as a substitute for eggs when baking for friends who don't eat eggs. Success!
