Q: California residents only. Warning: Consuming this product can expose you to chemicals including lead, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects What does this mean

submitted by eye cream - 24 days ago
  • A: Hello, and thank you for your question. California requires a "Proposition/Prop 65" statement on products that contain certain ingredients. For more information about Prop 65 labeling, please contact us at customerservice@bobsredmill.com, and our team will be happy to assist you further.

Q: Can you mix in a small amount with egg whites to make scrambled eggs, and if not why?

submitted by Mike Ha - 2 months ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. Our Gluten Free Egg Replacer is meant to replace eggs in baked goods like muffins, cakes, and cookies. It will not work for scrambles, quiche, merengues, or similar. The ingredients of the Egg Replacer function as binding agents (giving baked goods structure) and will add a little rise as well but these ingredients do not have the texture or the flavor of real eggs and are not meant to be eaten this way.

Q: Can l use it as a scrambled egg?

submitted by pers - 3 months ago
  • A: Thank you for your question! Our Gluten Free Egg Replacer is meant for replacing eggs in baked goods; it works best in recipes like cookies, pancakes, quick breads, and similar. It does not work well for custards (like pie filling), mayonnaise, or similar egg-based sauces, scrambles, quiche, merengues, or egg-heavy baked goods like brioche or similar. You can see all of the recipes that we have that use our egg replacer here as examples: https://www.bobsredmill.com/recipes/using/gluten-free-vegan-egg-replacer

Q: Is this okay to eat raw? As in, if I used this in a no-bake dessert recipe that called for a small amount of dried eggs, would it be safe to consume if not heated?

submitted by Zee - 3 months ago
  • A: Thank you for your question! Our Gluten Free Egg Replacer is meant to replace eggs in baked goods like cookies or muffins but it wont work for "raw" or no-bake recipes; it needs to be baked for the best results. If you have any additional questions please contact us at customerservice@bobsredmill.com and we would be happy to help!

Q: Can u use this to make royal icing instead of using dried egg whites?

submitted by Laura - 4 months ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. We do not recommend using our Gluten Free Egg Replacer for royal icing; it is meant for baked goods like cookies, muffins, cakes, and similar but wont work in an icing recipe (or for sauces, mayonnaise, quiche, or scrambles).

Q: I see a lead warning. Is there lead in this product?

submitted by Vegan - 1 year ago
  • A: Hello, thank you for your question. The presence of a Prop 65 warning on a food does not necessarily mean the food is less safe or pure than other comparable products. It is important to understand that many of the chemicals in food that appear on the Prop 65 list are substances that naturally occur in plants or the soil they are grown in, herbicides/pesticides that are approved by the FDA and USDA for conventional agricultural use, or substances that may be formed during cooking or other processes. So, the presence of a Prop 65 warning does not mean harmful chemicals have been added to food. The Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. agency with responsibility for food safety, has studied lead for many years and has set limits on how much lead can be present in food. Our products comply with FDA guidelines. Nonetheless, Prop 65 may require companies to place warnings on products even when the substance is at a level well below the FDA safe limit level https://www.fda.gov/food/metals-and-your-food/lead-food-foodwares-and-dietary-supplements. Thank you!

Q: Would this be a good replacement for french toast batter?

submitted by Optimiss - 1 year ago
  • A: Hi Optimiss, The Gluten Free Egg Replacer works best to replace eggs in baked goods like cookies, muffins, cakes, and similar. Our GF egg replacer may work in the French toast batter, but in a small amount, around 1 Tbsp maximum to take the place of something like flaxseed meal or psyllium, in addition to the other vegan ingredients. Thank you, Bob's Red Mill Customer Service team

Q: Could this be used to replace egg in baked macaroni?

submitted by ABPhillips - 3 years ago
  • A: Our Egg Replacer can be used to replace eggs in a baked macaroni recipe. This works best when replacing up to 3 eggs; more than 3, eggs may be too much of an important ingredient to replace.

Q: Is there any soy products in this item?

    Very disappointed

So far, I’ve tried the egg replacer with brownies, chocolate chip cookies, and muffins, recipes that I have made many times, and none of them have come out well. They always seem underbaked when cooked to the appropriate time, and if I cook them longer, it ends up hard as rocks and still looking underbaked. Since this seems to work for some people, I have to imagine there is some trick that isn’t in the instructions. Would love some trouble shooting advise. I think of Bob’s red mill as a premium brand, so I’m very disappointed that this does not work when following the instructions to the letter.

Thank you for your feedback. We apologize for any issues and frustration that you’ve experienced with our Gluten Free Egg Replacer and thank you for letting us know. Our Gluten Free Egg Replacer can be used in many applications, but generally, it works best in recipes for baked goods that use 3 eggs or less. Baked goods get a lot of structure from eggs so if a recipe calls for more than 3 eggs, or whipped eggs/egg whites, they’ll be harder to replace in a recipe. Recipes that are low in flour compared to eggs, like some brownie recipes may also be harder to modify. Whatever the issue, our products are always guaranteed and we are happy to assist further and you can reach us at customerservice@bobsredmill.com.

When I purchased this I intended to include it in my low carb diet, since eggs and egg whites are in short supply. After I opened it, and tried it, I realized it contains NO protein and ALL carbs. Sadly, I will not be using this powder.

Thank you for your review. Our Gluten Free Egg Replacer is meant to be used in baked goods to help with binding and rise but it won't have the same nutritional content as real eggs and it is not meant to be used as a replacement in scrambles or similar; it works best to replace eggs in baked goods like muffins or cakes. If you need more assistance please feel free to reach out at customerservice@bobsredmill.com and we would be happy to help further.

I use it to halve recipes. I have a donut recipe that yields a dozen donuts, but we don't need that many. The recipe uses 3 eggs. I use one egg and half of the ingredients of this egg replacer. My donuts came out perfect. I also used this for a homemade corn muffin recipe that uses three eggs. I have not used this product to totally replace eggs for my recipes yet. But I plan to continue to use this egg replacer in recipes - even with those that have an even number of eggs.

I bought this because of the egg shortage due to a salmonela outbreak AND Hurricane Helene destroying grocery warehouses in my area. I thought it would be a good way to continue baking for my family. I am absolutely thrilled with this product. I’ve used it in muffins and a scone recipe so far. The baked goods were perfect! My family is thrilled and are coming up with other things for me to bake. I’m so impressed, I plan to keep using Bob’s Red Mill Egg Replacer for all my baking, even when eggs are finally back in stock. It’s way cheaper and really better than eggs because of its shelf life and lack of cholesterol. Thank you for coming to the rescue with such a quality product!

This worked perfectly in my banana bread and peanut butter cookies today! I was out of eggs and had this in the cupboard and figured I’d give it a go and i’m very pleased my recipes turned out exactly the same and delicious! I added apple sauce to my banana bread to replace some of the moisture that the eggs would normally give it worked great! You just mix a tablespoon of egg replacement with 2 tablespoon of water and let it sit for a few minutes. I used a whisk to make sure there were no lumps.

Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry to hear you had these results. Some recipes may rely more on the properties of eggs/egg whites to dry and create structure than others. If the recipe is lower in flour or calls for a high number of eggs (3+), like some brownie recipes, then using an egg replacer powder may cause inconsistent results and a vegan-specific recipe may be a better fit.

I have a wheat and egg allergy, and this egg replacer has worked fantastic for gluten-free cakes and muffins; however, we've made two batches of boxed gluten-free brownies (different brands) back to back and both came out runny in the middle. I'd recommend using 3 tbsp of peanut butter, apple sauce or bananas instead of egg replacer for brownies.

My muffins were fluffy, light and delicious, so was my cakes, corn bread, waffles, cookies and everything else I made. Nobody could tell that it was made with egg replacer. It was obviously good, because there were no leftovers. I do substitute the water for plant based milk. If it's something sweet, I'll use vanilla oat milk or the plain thick and extra creamy kind. It just depends on what I'm making. Other stuff gets the unsweetened plant based milk. The package will last a long time and it's easy to use.
