This is my second Bodum, but it will not be my third. I really liked the simple aesthetic, quick heating element, and price point at $25. When the lid of my first one broke, I decided to replace the whole kettle. There’s a tiny plastic hinge that connects the lid to the flip-open mechanism. The heating element was still ok. This was approx 2 years after purchase. Well, on two my second kettle and year two and the lid has broken again. I used mine 2-3 times a day, so it definitely worked hard, and perhaps the cheap plastic hinge is what keeps this kettle so affordable. For my third kettle, in year 5, I’ll look for a metal hinge.
Won't turn on easily

It has a hard time staying on. The auto shut off works if you can get it to start.

While we’re glad that the auto shut-off feature is functioning, we’re sorry to hear that you’re having trouble with your BISTRO Electric Water Kettle. The power switch is designed for a light touch for both safety and convenience, but this does mean it might reset if the kettle is accidentally bumped or jostled. Additionally, please note that the auto shut-off may activate more quickly if the kettle contains less water, as the thermometer could register a boiling temperature sooner. If the kettle is not filled to the MAX line, it might seem to shut off prematurely. If the issue continues, or if you’d like to share your feedback with our customer service team, please feel free to reach out at support@bodum.com. Thank you for bringing this to our attention!

It was only $20. It lasted me about 5 years. And it worked perfectly fine. Q: Is it the best kettle around? A: No. it's $20. But It did auto shut off when it reached boil which is nice. Q: Will I be buy it again? A: No. I will be upgrading to a gooseneck. It was also impossible to clean well. Q: Would it of made it more than 5 years if my demestic terrorist of a cat didn't knock it off the counter breaking the lid? A: Yeah, probably. But I was already considering buying something new. 5 years was long enough. Q: Why 4 stars? A: I initally bought this to make cup ramen and the occational cups of tea. And for those things it was perfect. But now I need a kettle that can make pour over coffee and get the tempeture just right on spicific teas. So it feels wrong to deduct stars for something I never intended to use it for.

It smells strongly of plastic and all of the water that you boil in a tastes strongly of plastic. I wasted my money because I’m not drinking water that comes from this.

Best little kettle ever! It’s been two years since I bought this and I have used it every day at least once because I boil water for my baby’s formula, and I have two babies back to back. We even take it with us when we travel and it’s so easy to heat water for cup noodles and for tea for myself (I refuse to use the kettles in hotel rooms). The only downside is that I could see it being a challenge to clean the inside of the kettle because of how the lid is and how small it is overall (see picture). You simply cannot stick your hand in to clean it. But for me, I am able to clean the inside with a baby bottle brush so it is not a problem for me.

i love my new kettle. Perfect size the only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that I wish it kept the water warm until I decided to turn it off.

I've been using a Sunbeam Hotshot for years. I love this. It's less cumbersome. I can fill it with just the exact amount I want right at the sink. I just got it so I have no idea on its durability. I know this brand has a good history.
