Description

This Target exclusive edition contains bonus content only available to Target guests!

A dangerous alliance between a Vampyre bride and an Alpha Werewolf becomes a love deep enough to sink your teeth into in this new paranormal romance from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Love, Theoretically and The Love Hypothesis.

Misery Lark, the only daughter of the most powerful Vampyre councilman of the Southwest, is an outcast--again. Her days of living in anonymity among the Humans are over: she has been called upon to uphold a historic peacekeeping alliance between the Vampyres and their mortal enemies, the Weres, and she sees little choice but to surrender herself in the exchange--again...

Weres are ruthless and unpredictable, and their Alpha, Lowe Moreland, is no exception. He rules his pack with absolute authority, but not without justice. And, unlike the Vampyre Council, not without feeling. It's clear from the way he tracks Misery's every movement that he doesn't trust her. If only he knew how right he was....

Because Misery has her own reasons to agree to this marriage of convenience, reasons that have nothing to do with politics or alliances, and everything to do with the only thing she's ever cared about. And she is willing to do whatever it takes to get back what's hers, even if it means a life alone in Were territory...alone with the wolf.

Storyline was pretty good. I liked the fact that it’s a quick standalone. There was a part where things got a little weird for me but I am also the one reading a vampire werewolf romance so I guess that’s partially on me lol. Definitely a good intro into romantasy for someone trying to get their toes wet into the genre. It is modern fantasy though which isn’t really my cup of tea usually.

This is the third Ali hazelwood book I’ve read thus far. Spoilers ahead! You’ve been warned. I will say this book is very on par for her writing style quirky and very emotionally complex female leads along with little blurbs each chapter. I will say the plot fell flat for me as compared to her other two books I’ve read love hypothesis and love theoretically this one didn’t feel like there was an end goal. Or maybe I just didn’t care about it? I notoriously do not read summaries for most books I read especially if I’ve read something from the author before. I will say I liked the different genre for Ali, it was a very refreshing take, but with a main character named misery I was weirded out even though I found her relatable. Another thing about this book is how bad the slow burn hit me. I definitely found myself along with misery and the emotional turns. Overall a satisfying read although I was a bit perturbed with the epilogues ending.

Ali Hazelwood proves she can hold her own outside of academia! This is not the kind of book I would normally pick up, but I knew I had to give it a shot because I loved her other books. I thought it was done very well, and holds some of the themes that I loved from her other books. If you’re on the fence, give it a try!

I really liked the book until I got to the part about "knotting" which ruined it for me. I finished the book but really wish the author had left that out. I love spicy books but if you don't recognize the term, you might want to do a quick Google search to see if it's something you don't mind described in detail.
