About the Book
"This unique picture book, narrated by a bespectacled owl, tells the tale of how C.S. Lewis slowly embraced Christianity, was surprised by joy, and then used his words and writings to share that joy with the world"--Book Synopsis
The lion, the writer, and the search for joy.
Not every author can write about theology, literature, and a talking lion and end up delighting readers for generations. But not every author is C.S. Lewis. This biographical picture book welcomes readers to get to know the man behind Aslan and the magical wardrobe and to experience the joy that fueled his imagination. Young Clive Staples Lewis once loved wonder and play but was unable to trust God after the death of his mother. He left behind his belief in God and became a soldier and a professor. But he never stopped hoping to find true joy. This unique picture book, narrated by a bespectacled owl, tells the tale of how the man known as Jack embraced Christianity, was surprised by joy, and then used his words and writings to share that joy with the world.C.S. Lewis: The Writer Who Found Joy is the second book in the Here I Am! biography series for kids, which highlights fascinating and faithful Christians in history. Also available:
Dietrich Bonhoeffer: The Teacher Who Became a Spy
Lottie Moon: The Girl Who Reached the World
Review Quotes
"Lewis's life was like a storybook, and now thanks to Daniel DeWitt, it reads like one, too. Every kid ought to know about Narnia. But knowing more about Lewis himself means knowing more about the God who rescued him--which is how he would have wanted it."
Andrew Peterson, singer/songwriter, author of The Wingfeather Saga "C.S. Lewis has captivated me ever since he welcomed me into Narnia as a little girl. Now, Daniel DeWitt has captured the essence of Lewis in an engaging way that welcomes young readers to know the man behind the wonder. I love how Daniel humanizes Jack and so beautifully encapsulates Lewis's story with such clarity, simplicity, and accuracy. This delightful book is a must have for every young reader and the grown-ups who love them."

As the second book in the Here I Am! biography series for kids, this biography highlights C. S. Lewis as a fascinating and faithful Christian in history. This book does a great job describing primary milestones in the life of C. S. Lewis, such as: The loss of his mother, which led him to a disbelief in God His quizzical nature and love of learning that led him to Oxford Once on staff, his friend JRR Tolkien speaking to him about God His then, motivation to seek joy God beginning to soften his heart His subsequent joy found in God His talks on the radio during WWII which were compiled to make up his book, Mere Christianity His inspiration to write more books in order to share his faith The illustrations used within this book are colorful and have so much depth that they draw you into each scene. I find them realistic and bold enough to catch the eye of a young reader. This book suitable for 4-8 years of age with ages beyond that reading it themselves. Considering the number of pages and dialog, it might be a little bit long for a preschooler, depending upon their reading level. I received this book from the author/publisher free of charge, with no expectation of a positive review.
