It's our goal to help you keep your dishes sparkling clean, so we're very sorry to hear this, Kristin Our ActionPacs™ are formulated to provide the best cleaning possible, and we wouldn't expect them to leave any scent or taste on your dishes. However, if your dishes haven't been properly rinsed or if they're worn to the point of being porous, some scents could be left behind. In this case, we recommend checking your dishwasher's filter and sprayer arms to ensure they're not clogged. You can do this by placing a cup or mug on the top rack of your machine and then running a cycle; the cup/mug should be filled at the end, and if it isn't full that's an indicator that your dishwasher isn't running properly. We also recommend running a sanitizing cycle; if your dishwasher doesn't have a sanitizing cycle, run it on the heaviest and hottest setting. To remove any scent from your dishes or your machine, fill your detergent cups with white vinegar (or put two cups of white vinegar in a non-metallic bowl on the bottom rack), remove all metal items from the dishwasher, and then run one wash cycle with no added detergent. We’re glad we can leave your dishes clean, Lenk, and are sorry to hear that was your experience. Some materials, such as cast iron and plastic, can absorb odors. If certain items always pick up an odor, they could be old or worn to the point of being porous. This can cause the scent of the detergent to be more easily absorbed into the surface, and these items should be washed by hand. For all other items which are dishwasher safe, scent should not remain on the item if they are rinsed properly, whether by hand or in the dishwasher. To remove the scent from dishes or the dishwasher, fill both detergent cups with white vinegar. If dishwasher isn't designed with dispenser cups, put two cups of white vinegar in a non-metallic bowl and place it on the bottom rack of the dishwasher. Then, remove all metal items from the dishwasher, as vinegar is too acidic for metal items, but is safe for stainless steel dishwasher interiors. Run one wash cycle without adding any detergent.
