If this opening salvo to the Missing in Alaska series is any indication of what's to come, we are in for a real treat. Cold Light of Day had me entranced from the very beginning. There's a prologue that sets the intensity level for the rest of the story. And let's just say that it's up there. After having read a few chapters I thought I knew how the prologue ties in to the rest of the story. But I was wrong. I hate being wrong but in this case it was a good thing. The truth was ten times better than what I had thought. The main character is Police Chief Autumn Long and I was fascinated by her character. She has a lot of pluck about her. She's definitely one that runs towards danger rather than away. If you need someone to have your back she would be the one I would pick. Grier Brenner is the mystery man in this tale. He arrived in the small little town of Shadow Gap just a short while ago. He came there to disappear. But when he sees someone in need of a rescue he can't help but give aid because that's just who he is. The plot twists and turns are well written and keep the reader guessing as to the meaning and outcome right up until the very end. I'm excited to get my hands on the rest of the series. In the mean time if you haven't read anything else by Elizabeth Goddard I highly recommend any of her previous titles. I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

Cold Light of Day, by Elizabeth Goddard, is the first book in the Missing in Alaska series. Packed with vivid storytelling, this novel is enhanced by a satisfying blend of mystery, suspense, action, faith, and romance. This book is rich in setting, characterization, and plot, producing a story that is truly gripping and utterly entertaining. In Cold Light of Day, the author uses forested Alaskan mountains to add elements of natural beauty and inherent danger to the story. This setting is descriptively immersive and provides a multi-sensory experience within the novel. The towns are remote, the cabins are isolated, and the woods are dense and concealing. As the story unfolds, the author does a wonderful job of ensuring that the setting itself contributes its own sense of wonder, peril, and uncertainty. In addition to the setting, the compelling characters also make this book appealing. They are perceptive, vulnerable, and sincere. With authentic motivations and relatable insecurities, they are genuinely interesting. As they endeavor to piece together a growing number of clues that arise from difficult and dangerous events, they also search for purpose and meaning within their lives. As the characters draw closer to the solutions they seek, the story becomes quite meaningful as they endeavor to hold onto the hope and the healing they need in their lives. Ms. Goddard has certainly crafted a novel that is very engaging and intriguing. With its influential setting, insightful characters, and riveting plot, Cold Light of Day is an especially memorable book. I gladly recommend it. *I was given a copy of this book by the publisher. A review was not required. The review I have written is voluntary and contains opinions that are entirely my own.

Cold Light of Day by Elizabeth Goddard is the first book in her Missing in Alaska series. Police Chief Autumn Long is determined to keep her small Alaska town safe. When that safety is threatened, she has no alternative but to turn to Grier Brenner, a relative new-comer. Together they face opposition from all sides. The question is will they survive long enough to find the answers. This was a great beginning to a new series! The action was non-stop. The scenery descriptions were so descriptive that I could picture myself back in the region. I can’t wait for the next installment! I received this book from the author for my honest review.

Cold Light of Day is an excellent start to Elizabeth Goddard's newest series, Missing in Alaska. Secrets. Lies. Betrayal. Redemption? Only a fiery woman with odd eyes could bring him out of his hole and that's exactly what was happening now. I love that Autumn Long is the police chief in Shadow Gap, Alaska. Like any woman in her position, she faces opposition. Some are obvious, while at other times, it is hard to know where the threat comes from. Family secrets could shatter a person. Grier Brenner is in Alaska to hide. He has no plans to get involved in anything. Unfortunately, he has a difficult time saying no to Chief Long. From the beautiful Alaskan setting, the constant suspense, the potential romance between Autumn and Grier, and a few twists, you will be spellbound until the final page! I am already looking forward to the next book in the series. Thank you to Revell for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Cold Light of Day By Elizabeth Goddard Another amazing book by Elizabeth Goddard! This is book is number one in her Missing in Alaska series. You meet Autumn Long, Police Chief of an Alaska town called Shadow Gap. Next you meet Grier Brenner, he’s in Alaska to disappear like many who come here. Autumn’s father and grandfather were both Police Chiefs of Shadow Gap and her brother Nolan is an Alaskan State Trooper. It only made sense when her father retired that she become the next Police Chief. Even though Grier is in Alaska to disappear, he’s made friends with a few of the local guys. They often have breakfast together at the restaurant Autumn’s grandparents own and run called the Lively Moose. As Autumn is flying home from a meeting she and pilot Carrie James, spot a woman in the water drowning. As they try to help in the rescue, someone is swimming out to also try and save the drowning woman. Autumn recognizes that it is Grier, who is swimming In effort to rescue the woman. Once she is rescued, they learn that her name is Sarah. Sarah claims that her boat sank and that’s how she ended up in the water. Autumn ask Grier to help her locate Sarah’s supposedly sunken boat. As the two are diving to locate Sarah’s boat, they come across a dead body in the water. Now, Autumn and Grier team up to find answers as to where the now disappeared Sarah is, who the dead body is and how does it all connect. Will Autumn and Grier survive long enough to get all the answers and connect the dots? Hold on as this gripping, page turning adventure that has you up reading at all hours of the night. The author through in a few curve balls that even surprised me. I highly, highly recommend this book as you will not be disappointed. I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for book number two. Happy Reading!

In this super fast paced story, you have police chief Autumn Long - doing everything possible to keep her job while her town is falling apart with unsolved crimes - and Grier Brenner who is trying to stay under the radar and out of the spot light so crime doesn't come visiting. From the very first page, this suspense thriller book grabs ahold of you and doesn't let go until the final page in the story. Twists and turns, new characters along the way, figuring out who goes with who and being captivated all along the way make this an exceptional fast read that you aren't going to want to put down. This is book one in the Missing In Alaska series by Goddard and it does not disappoint! Revell Reads sent me this complimentary copy to review for them. Opinions expressed are my own.

“I knew the first time we met that God brought you here for a purpose greater than your own.” This book is the first in the Missing in Alaska series, and I have to say it was a great read. Autumn is the police chief in her small quiet Alaskan town, taking the place of her father. She loves her job and is dismayed to learn her job is in jeopardy. I loved Autumn’s independent spirit and strong faith. When people start targeting her and people turn up dead in her small town, she must work hard to figure out who and why. The path to solving these crimes will lead her to something she never saw coming. Grier moves to Alaska to escape something and most importantly to stay hidden from people who want him dead. Grier manages to stay below the radar till he meets Autumn, and discovers that she is the target of some bad people. Grier does everything he can to protect her, including putting his life on the line a few times. I really loved how Grier was so protective of Autumn even though she didn’t want protection. Cold Light of Day was fast paced, edge of your seat suspense/mystery and I could not put it down. I loved all the twists and turns, and the ending was my favorite. This book did not disappoint.

~3.5 stars~ 'Cold Light of Day' is an intense, action-packed suspense set in the normally peaceful, small-town community of Shadow Gap, Alaska. The author beautifully utilizes descriptive imagery to describe the lofty, snow-capped mountains, glaciers spilling into the waterways, and forests exploding into a multiplicity of colors—oh, how I long to visit! Autumn Long is a strong woman and the capable police chief of Shadow Gap—the chemistry and romantic tension between her and hero, Grier Brenner, is so palpable you can cut it with a knife. I never got too attached to the other characters—they were simply just.....there. I'm not a huge admirer of a lot of "shoot 'em up bang bang", but 1/3 of the way through the book there were already quite a few bullets whizzing by...some hitting their targets. However, truly a well-written, exciting read that appears to be a fan favorite. Looking forward to her next novel which promises to be just as exhilarating! *I received an ARC from the publisher and was under no obligation to write a favorable review.*

WOW!! This book was so much fun! Cold Light of Day is the first book in the Missing in Alaska series. This was the first book I’ve read from this author and let me say, she did not disappoint! I was hooked from the Prologue, this book is fast paced, full of action, danger and excitement! There were several twists that literally made my jaw drop! I also love stories set in Alaska, I love the descriptions of the Alaskan setting and I feel it gives an added suspense element to the story! I also really loved Elizabeth’s writing style, the story flowed so smoothly and was easy to consume! I also really enjoyed the character development in this story. Autumn has a lot going on in her life, and we are given glimpses of what has made her into the person she is now, then there is Grier, a man with a lot of baggage but he also can't ignore those in need even if it places him in danger. I do wish there was more faith, I think the past of both of these characters allowed for great opportunity for the author to use more faith or deeper faith within their stories. I personally like deeper faith in my Christian Fiction novels; however, it is a personal preference and the lack of faith content (in my opinion) did NOT take away from my enjoyment of this book. I am now going to have to wait patiently for book #2 because I am definitely going to continue in this series! complimentary copy of the novel. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

MEMORIES & MURDERS

“You’re here now, in this place and in this position, because God put you here. You need to believe that and know you’re the exact person needed for this hour,” Autumn remembers in Elizabeth Goddard’s novel, Cold Light of Day. ~ What ~ The first in the Missing in Alaska series, this three-hundred-and-thirty-six-page paperback targets those interested in a clean romantic suspense based in rural Alaska. With no profanity, topics of torture, murder, and death may not be appropriate for immature readers. The ending includes acknowledgments, an excerpt of the next book in the series, the author’s biography, and advertisements. This story follows Autumn Long who has taken over her father’s position as police chief of the small town of Shadow Gap, Alaska, where it is calm and quiet. But when a young lady is rescued by newcomer Grier Brenner and a dead body is found, she turns to the heroic stranger for help and guidance. As the two work together to uncover who is behind the increased criminal activity, they have to deal with the truths of their pasts to accept that God is the one always in control. ~ Why ~ I have been to Alaska twice and love its beauty and uniqueness, so this read was engaging and interesting as the two protagonists trampled through forests and dived into cold waters seeking answers. I liked how the relationship grew between Autumn and Grier as they faced their fears of the past and future. The story kept me turning pages as the two tried to stay alive and safe. ~ Why Not ~ Those who do not like reads that include physical abuse, fugitives, and murders may want to avoid this one. Others who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ may not be interested in it, but it is not overwhelming or pushy. Some may question how Autumn repeatedly trusted Grier more than her police department. ~ Wish ~ I wish the book gave the eternal plan of salvation. I prefer all pronouns of God capitalized for reverence. Adding discussion questions at the end would be thoughtful for book clubs. ~ Want ~ If you like an action-packed story of a female police chief who has to deal with memories and murders, this romance is an exhilarating ride. Thanks to Revell for this complimentary book. I am under no obligation to give a positive review.

Elizabeth Goddard is one of my go-to authors when I want to read a good suspense story and Cold Light of Day did not disappoint. The main characters, Autumn, the police chief in small-town Alaska, and Grier, a newcomer trying to stay under the radar, are likable and relatable. They each have troubles to resolve and their collaborative efforts may be the answer or will it bring danger instead? I like how the author reveals the background of the characters, layer by layer. Edge-of-the-seat action, as situation after situation arises in the story, kept my attention from the first page to the last. And what is a good suspense story without a bit of romance blended in? Goddard has given readers a great romantic suspense story in this first book in the Missing in Alaska series. I can't wait to read the next book. I read a complimentary copy of the book and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.

Cold Light of Day is an outstanding romantic suspense novel set in a small community along the Inside Passage of the Alaska Panhandle. What better place for someone to disappear from a life they chose to leave behind, or perhaps were forced to leave behind? Shadow Gap Chief of Police Autumn Long had years of law enforcement experience, handling circumstances in the wilds of Alaska unknown to most United States law enforcement officers, but was she prepared when murders began happening in her small town? All outsiders come under suspicion, but possibly someone more familiar might be responsible. Elizabeth Goddard keeps readers on the edge of their seats with this intriguing plot and the harsh realities of life in Alaska. The mental images she paints of the beautiful Alaskan landscape and sea and river scapes are stunning. She also paints a picture of isolation broken only by choosing to become a part of a small tight knit community in Alaska's towns separated by vasts amount of land from major cities,or even larger towns. I anxiously await book two in her Missing in Alaska series. I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy of Cold Light of Day from Revell without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.

A fast paced thriller set in beautiful, mysterious, and dangerous Alaska. Edge of your seat danger that keeps you glued to the story and wondering what is coming next. A story so masterful written that you devour it yet do not want it to end! Chief Autumn Long loves her quiet small town of Shadow Gap, Alaska. When bodies start turning up bringing danger, she quickly finds herself as a target. Is there more going on then what appears and will her own past secrets come to light? Grier Brenner has come to Shadow Gap to disappear like so many others do in Alaskan wilderness. He finds himself thrust into the middle of recent events in town and drawn to the Chief with the mysterious eyes. Can he continue to keep his distance and his reasoning for falling off the radar a secret as the danger increases? Chief Long and Grier find themselves thrust together to find out what is happening both within the town threatening the Chief’s job and the danger descending on Shadow Gap. Can they learn to trust one another before it is too late? One of my favorite Elizabeth Goddard books! A thrilling first book to this series full of danger, mystery, and romance. I am anxiously awaiting book two! I was given a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are completely my own.

I received this book as an advanced readers copy with no expectation of a positive review. Ms. Goddard has started a fabulous new series in the wilderness of Alaska. This story is set in the town of Shadow Gap. Grier is a stranger to the area, but has made friends with the locals. As the book continues you find that there is many secrets in this small town. This small town police department headed by Chief Amber Long who is fighting to keep her job, begins having murdered bodies in her town. How is all this connected. This book kept me on the edge of my seat. It is a must read. I fell in love with the town and the characters.

So much action suspense with a bit of romance thrown in! I was hooked from the first pages. Grier was hiding out in Small Gap Alaska while waiting for his friend to get back to him about how the investigation was going. He was laying low so that he wouldn't be found. Unfortunately, that didn't happen after he became a local hero after saving a drowning woman from the water. Police Chief Autumn Long had seen him around town at various times for several months but didn't know anything about him or why he stuck around. The town wasn't used to outsiders staying so long. She wanted to know more about him. Meanwhile, she was trying to salvage her career thanks to one of the town council members who wanted her booted out as chief so his nephew could take over. Little did she know that she and Grier would finally connect due to his rescuing the woman from the water. After that they frequently talked about what was going on and she tried to learn more from him as to why he was in town. Grier didn't trust anyone after what happened to him as he wasn't sure who he could trust other than his friend that was helping clear his name. When Autumn asks Grier to do a deep dive to see if what the drowning woman claimed regarding her boat sinking was true, things start to heat up. A dead body is found in an old shipwreck they find while diving. The body appears to have been there for a short time but the sea creatures had started nibbling and there was no id on the body so they couldn't be sure if it was a local or an outsider. With both Autumn and Grier hiding things from their pasts it takes them a bit to trust each other but once they do they rely on each other when more dead bodies are found and more outsiders are seen in town. Old nemeses are found to have figured out where they both are and they're basically stalked and attempts are made on their lives. Are you hooked yet? I hope you'll read the book to find out if they catch the bad guys and to see if Autumn and Grier fall in love.

Cold Light of Day takes readers on a thrilling rollercoaster ride of mayhem and destruction while the Alaskan wilderness provides a stunning backdrop to the continuous action. I’m always in awe of the way that Goddard incorporates the setting of her stories into the plot, but Cold Light of Day takes the cake! From avalanches of all kinds to snow, valleys, water rescues and airplane travel, Goddard nails the isolation and pioneer spirit that characterizes Alaska. I’m excited to see how she uses this in this series moving forward! Alaska’s isolation doesn’t come through only in it’s geography, but also in the people who populate the state. Goddard makes interesting points about the people who choose to move to this frontier, even today, and that drives the plot in many ways. I love the way that she throws twists and turns into the story with this element, and she definitely keeps you guessing all the way through. And that population? While it definitely has it’s colorful elements, I’ve always admired that pioneering spirit, and there’s much of that in the town of Shadow Gap. The characters as a whole fit together really well, and I like that cohesiveness among them – not just among the ones sparking, but among the townspeople as a whole. Autumn makes for a strong leader in the community and a heroic main character. Grier’s skills and mysterious background, with his ability to fit into this unique small town, cast him as a caring but warrior alpha male – and to me, those are the best kinds of main characters. All of these pieces fit together to make an unforgettable story, and it’s a really strong start to the Missing in Alaska series. If you like heroic characters, intense action, and unique settings, it’s time to jump on the Cold Light of Day train. Pre-order today here to get in on some advance specials and have your copy as soon as it releases on Tuesday. Then settle in with a fun drink and some snacks, because you won’t be putting this one down until you’ve turned the last page. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. This is my sixth book that I’ve read and reviewed by Elizabeth Goddard and they just keep getting better and better. This was the first of the missing in Alaska series, and that’s what drew me in. I love the Alaska setting for any type of book and this suspense had it all! Secrets, espionage, murders, laundered money, kidnapping and a bit of romance. The characters were easy to get to know in spite of some of the secrets being withheld. Grier was in hiding in the small town of Shadow Gap, but kept showing up at the right times to be known as the town’s hero. He was on borrowed time but kept his secrets in order to keep the residents safe, especially the Chief of Police, Autumn Long. Autumn is facing more serious crime than is normal for her small town, including several murders. Are these isolated or do they perhaps tie in together somehow? This was a fast read for me because I wanted to know what was going to happen next, and it was full of heart thumping moments for sure. A real “do not miss” as far as I’m concerned. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher but was not required to write a review. All opinions are strictly my own.

Elizabeth Goddard is beginning a new series, Missing in Alaska. Her first release, Cold Light of Day, is Dazzling! Goddard takes readers on a daring adventure with Police Chief Autumn Long. The Chief is doing her best to protect her small town of Shadow Gap. The ordinarily quiet area has suddenly fallen victim to unusually intense criminal activity. If not for the intervention of Grier Brenner, a newcomer to the community who possesses the skillset needed to help the Chief, she might find herself the next victim. Can Grier be trusted, or is he hiding out in Alaska like many others who have come there to escape from something or someone? Can Grier prove his mettle? The two of them join forces to fight for justice and work to solve several murder cases and an old missing person case. Autumn wants to believe the best because Grier, the mystery man, is on a path to capturing her heart. Readers will quickly realize this is a dynamic start to Goddard’s new series! I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Revell and NetGalley. The opinions expressed here are entirely my own and without influence.
