About the Author

INGRI D'AULAIRE and EDGAR PARIN D'AULAIRE first met in Munich, where both were studying art. Ingri had grown up in Norway; Edgar, the son of a noted Italian portrait painter, was born in Switzerland and had lived in Paris and Florence. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to the United States and began to create the picture books that established their reputation as two of the twentieth century's most important children's writers and illustrators. They won the 1940 Caldecott Medal for Abraham Lincoln.

During an extended trip to Greece, they studied and sketched the countryside, the people, and the architecture and artifacts of long ago. The result was D'Aulaires' Book of Greek Myths, the standard-bearer of mythology for children since its publication in 1962.

I have loved this book since I was a child. It gave me a real leg up in a classic education. I bought it as a gift. It arrived ever so slightly smushed but it will be ok.

The book is just as I remembered it from childhood. Easy to read and follow, beautiful illustrations and great, amusing and enlightening stories. I will enjoy sharing them with the young ones when they come over. It also makes a great coffee table book that invites lively discussion even when adults pick it up (Clash of the Titans, anyone?) . I recommend it highly.

This is a terrific book, well worth having in your personal library. We checked it out at the library and I decided that we should have a copy because it's something we would re-read. The stories are suitable for a wide age range, they aren't too childish nor too graphic. Just FYI, the cover art changed with the latest printing to a black background and that is the book I received from Target, not the yellow cover pictured. I ordered the hard cover edition.

Bought this for my 11 year old daughter who became interested in greek mythology from reading the Percy Jackson series. Of course Iwant to support extra learning and this book is amazing. The stories are easy enough for her to read and enjoy on her own without being too childish or too adult. I also enjoyed it. Great buy

Really Great Book!!! I, myself, was just getting into Greek Myths and I really enjoyed the Popular myths I read online. BUT! I wanted to learn more about the Gods, Godesses and so on. So I went online and found this GREAT book!! Extremely happy with the price, so I bought it and received it in the mail very quickly! I especially loved how the book was ordered, gave the background story then what they did and connected another person and went to tell about them. I STRONGLY recommend this book and hope whoever likes Greek Myths or are interested in the topic gets it!!!
