The sour cream stays fresh for longer than the typical container. We probably wouldn't get sour cream without this type of dispenser option, because it would always go bad before we made it more than ~half way through the 16oz carton. In this case, the sour cream is always seems very fresh, even when we've used it over a ~2 month period. The downside is that I don't think the container is recyclable without an annoying cleaning process.
