These items communicate fill rate by volume (fl. oz.) not NET WT. The perceived weigh of the product is not a reliable indicator of the filled contents. Fast 'N Final is designed and marketed for minor cosmetic/surface repairs, such as dents/dings in wallboard, not large format repairs. Fast 'N Final is specifically formulated as a low moisture/low density spackling compound for faster dry time/paint time. Fast 'N Final does not dry with the same hardness as traditional heavyweight spackling compounds. As this is a water-based (acrylic-latex) formula, the sole drying mechanism is the evaporation of water. Dry time can be significantly impacted by cool or humid application conditions, moisture in the application surfaces or by thick (deep) applications of the patch. The most common cause for slow dry time/development of full hardness, results from application in excess of the recommended fill depth. As indicated on the product package label and supporting product literature: "One application is usually sufficient for small repairs. For repairs deeper than 1/8”, apply two or more layers allowing spackling to dry between applications. Full dry (full hardness) will occur once all of the water contained in the formula has evaporated. Because you did not provide any details regarding your experience, such as the application surface, width/depth of fill, temperature, humidly or application technique, it is difficult to provide you with a more detailed reply in this format. DAP offers several traditional spackling compounds that may be more in line with your needs/preferences.
