Q: Is this paintable? Dap-100 silicone kitchen and bath

submitted by Nope nope - 4 months ago
  • A: Thank you for posting your inquiry on DAP Silicone Max Kitchen and Bath. As indicated on the product package label guidance as well as supporting product literature: "Not paintable. Paint substrate surface before applying sealant.". This performance characteristic is common to all 100% silicone formulas (irrespective of brand). For applications where paint application is desired, the use of an acrylic-latex (water-based) sealant would be recommended. At your convenience, please contact DAP's Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some additional information regarding your project and to provide you with recommendation for a product that better aligns with your needs.

Q: Can this be used around bottom of toilet base

submitted by Lula - 4 months ago
  • A: Thank you for posting your inquiry on DAP Silicone Max Kitchen and Bath Sealant. The application of a sealant to the base of the toilet would not be recommended if leaking is observed, as it will likely trap moisture, which can lead to more significant problems such as mold/mildew, and rot. Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

Q: Is this food safe? Can it be used to glue a plastic utencil?

submitted by Adeline - 3 years ago
  • A: Thank you for posting your inquiry on DAP Silicone Max Kitchen & Bath, 2.8 Squeeze Tube (White). For “food safe” applications, the use of sealants (formulas) with Certifications by NSF / ANSI Standard #51 and/or FDA Regulation No. 21 CFR 177.2600 are recommended. Both DAP Silicone Max Kitchen & Bath and/or DAP Commercial Kitchen Silicone are specifically formulated/tested to meet NSF and FDA requirements. Of note, while silicone can bond to several common plastics, it is not compatible with several food grade plastics (such as HDPE). Because you did not identify the specific type of plastic you are attempting to apply to/bond to, it is difficult to provide a definitive use recommendation/guidance. Should you wish to provide this information, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477, so that we can provide you with a more definitive response or to suggest a more appropriate product.

Cap couldn't come off, in attempting to get it off I literally ripped the tube apart and broke my scissors. No cap should be that dang hard to take off.

Thank you for posting your feedback on DAP Silicone Max 100% Premium Kitchen and Bath Silicone Sealant (Squeeze Tube). We are not clear regarding your commentary indicating: "in attempting to get it off I literally ripped the tube apart and broke my scissors.", as there is not direction given to use "scissors" to uncap/open this package, nor would they be of use/safe to use in an attempt to do so. Thank you for posting your feedback on DAP Silicone Max, Kitchen & Bath Sealant Based on the short interval between the application of the sealant and the appearance (of what is assumed to be biological growth) there is a significant likelihood that the application surface had biological contamination (mold/mildew) present at the time of application. Of note, silicone-based sealants do not directly support the growth of mold/mildew, however mold/mildew can develop from underneath the applied sealant (prior surface contamination) or over the applied sealant (by way of secondary films, such as oils, soaps, and other organic contaminants). Because you did not provide any background regarding your project, application technique or application conditions, it is difficult to provide a more detailed response in this format. Should you wish to provide this information, so we can better address your concerns, please feel free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

Purchased this to re caulk my bathtub. Product holds up nicely. Keep in mind- this is a small tube. Which makes it more difficult to do long lines as you are squeezing a tube like toothpaste.

Thank you for posting your feedback. We are sorry to see your low star review on DAPA Silicone Max Kitchen and Bath Sealant. As indicated on the product package label and supporting product literature: Product Application 1. If using squeeze tube, remove cap & cut nozzle at 45º angle to desired bead size. Unscrew nozzle & remove foil seal. Replace nozzle. 2. If using cartridge, cut nozzle at a 45° angle to desired bead size. Puncture inner foil seal. Load into caulk gun. 3. Fill gap or crack with sealant. 4. If necessary, tool or smooth the bead of sealant with a finishing tool before the sealant skins over. 5. At 73°F & 50% relative humidity, sealant is water resistant at 30 minutes & reaches full cure in 24 hours. Low humidity may slow cure. 6. Clean up excess uncured sealant from surface and tools with mineral spirits. Scrape or cut away excess cured sealant. Do not use mineral spirits to clean hands or skin. Wash hands or skin with soap and water. 7. Sealant is not paintable. Paint surfaces prior to applying sealant. 8. Reseal cartridge/tube for storage and reuse. Because you did not provide any details regarding your application, it is difficult to provide you with a more detailed response in this format. Should you wish to provide this information, so we can better address your concerns and/or to provide a recommendation for a product that better aligns with your needs/preferences, please feel free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

Smelled Like Vinegar Which I've Never Had Happen With Other Products, Not Sure If Its The Brand Of If The Product Was Bad. Wouldn't Stick Properly So I Have To Redo My Tub Area. Highly Annoyed.
1 reply from DAPProductExpert team - 3 years ago
Thank you for posting your feedback. DAP Silicone Max Kitchen and Bath is an acetoxy silicone formula. Acetoxy silicones can generate a strong vinegar-like odor while curing. As indicated on the product package label and supporting product literature: "Acetic acid is evolved during cure. Avoid breathing vapors. Use only with adequate ventilation. Ensure fresh air entry during application & drying." The odor that you describe is characteristic of this type of silicone formula/chemistry, irrespective of brand. Based on your feedback, you may wish to consider a lower odor, an easier to use acrylic latex (soap and water clean-up formula), such as DAP KWIK SEAL ULTRA. Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

Seems to work okay, but super duper stinky. The fumes are so aggressive, they sting your eyes as you’re working. Definitely do what the bottle says and wear goggles (and gloves) while working, and air out the space afterwards.

I needed some silicone to finish up a small bathroom project. Dap is the best stuff I've found. It comes.out of the tube easily and it's really easy to use. if I was doing a bigger project I'd get the full sized tube and caulk gun, though.

Product was not easy to squeeze out and came out so thick that I had to clean up a lot of extra sealant around the fixture. I applied it last week and appears to be doing it's job. I have used another product in the past by GE that was easier to dispense and had less of an odor.

Thank you for posting your feedback. We're sorry to hear about your experience with DAP Silicone Max. Based on your commentary it would appear that the inner foil seal was not broken/punctured prior to attempting to apply the product. As indicated on the product package label guidance and supporting product literature: "2. Cut nozzle at a 45º angle to desired bead size. 3. Puncture inner foil seal. 4. Load into caulk gun. 5. Fill gap with sealant, pushing sealant ahead of nozzle." I am thinking I may have gotten a faulty tube of the DAP Silicone Max. It was VERY difficult to get out of the tube. I had to use 2 hands to squeeze the caulk gun. (I know my gun was working fine because I used it last week with a tube of caulk and it worked fine.) The tube of silicone was new and freshly opened today, so I don't think it was dried up. It was just VERY thick coming out. I used my finger to smooth it where I needed it and I think it might cure ok, but geeze was it tough to squeeze out!
