DIY Crochet Tote Bag Kit - Mondo Llama™

I really loved the knit pumpkin kit from this brand so I decided to try a second one. This time it was painful. Instructions were impossible to follow, yarn quality was below average,

I recently starting crocheting so I bought this kit to help get me started. I think you would be better starting off with YouTube videos. The instructions could be more detailed and the bag itself is actually smaller than I thought it would be.

The instructions can be slightly unclear and the yarn is lower quality than what I expected it to be, looking at the picture on the box.

Product is good but the directions are impossible. I had to YouTube it. Not for beginners

This is my fourth crochet project and I’m having a lot of trouble with it. The yarn frays very easy so it makes the stitches look frizzy. I also think the instructions are not as clear as other crochet kits I’ve used.

My first time doing crochet. The instructions were super clear and the illustrations were easy to follow but only for the first half. After I have all granny squares ready the instructions just became quite confusion and hard to follow... 3 things I wish they had more detailed instructions: 1) how to single crochet to piece together all those granny squares? (Figured it out on YouTube later) 2) how to connect the end of the handle to the other side of the bag? (Ended up using single crochet as in 1) 3) how to weave in the ends? (So confusing for a first timer but there are quite some videos to help). Overall it's a cute kit and it's pretty fun but the instructions do have some room for improvement 😉

I loved this kit! It comes with enough extra yarn, so you can definitely make a few mistakes! It’s big high quality yarn, but it’s a great start for beginners. Highly recommend YouTube if the instructions aren’t clear enough!

This is a great kit, but not easy if this is your first ever crochet project. The colors are also not as vibrant as shown on the box. But overall, I'm happy with how mine is turning out

As long as you know how to do a double crochet or single crochet, this is very beginner friendly. And even if you don’t, it comes with a little instruction booklet (though reading it can be a little confusing). It feels like it can hold more than I think it could but I don’t want to risk it. It is very cute too.

I think if you have zero crochet experience, this is not a great kit. I have been making amigurumi and wanted to learn granny squares. With this cheap (frankly, awful, but that is typical of most kits) yarn, it is very difficult to tell if you are actually on the right track or not. Tension and technique seem to make a much bigger difference in granny squares and I am struggling to find the right tension on this yarn. My first block was giant, my 2nd was smaller, but I think it should be even smaller. But I am afraid to frog the first 2 for fear the yarn will not be usable again. BOTTOM LINE: If you want a pretty basic tutorial and a practice project, the price on this makes it still pretty worth dealing with it's downfall. But if you REALLY want to learn crochet....get a woobles kit first instead.

First time received a damaged package from Target. This was meant to be a gift. However, the box was damaged and they had added tape in several places to keep the box together. The materials inside were not damaged. Just not sure why Target would send out a product in that condition.

Great introduction into crocheting for a crafty beginner. Directions are very clearly written and the visual aids are well done and extremely helpful.

Not beginner friendly but after watching a YouTube video i could make the granny squares. Only problem is, I’m running out of yarn??? I have half the squares done and it seems like i don’t have nearly enough of the colors.

My main problem with this kit is that the yarn pictured on the box is NOT the same yarn you get. The pictured yarn looks very beginner friendly, the yarn you receive is very frayed and feels like the cheapest yarn you could possibly find. If you mess up and need to redo a section a couple of times, it quickly devolves into a mess of frizz that’s very hard to work with. I’ve seen mixed reviews on the instructions, personally I really liked them. It took some time and patience to figure out but I was able to do it as a novice. I also appreciated all the pictures and diagrams, as standard crochet patterns still go over my head. The one thing I wish the instructions had was a real life picture of what an example “tile” should look like because one thing I struggle with is proper tension. There’s the picture on the box but that uses a completely different type of yarn so it doesn’t really help. Overall though I really like this kit. I like that it introduces you to all the main stitches used in crochet, I like its illustrative instructions.

Great value. Instructions are easy to read and use (I usually can’t follow the detailed crochet instructions). It helps to have had some experience crocheting before, even if it’s basic. Love the colors and the outcome!

This set is not *as* beginner friendly as I thought. I had picked this up and started from scratch, 0 knowledge in crochet whatsoever. I found YouTube videos for the squares and handles, didn’t follow the guide. The yarn isn’t the greatest quality, when I was beginning the yarn would split and fray very easily. It’s also very stretchy. More than enough yarn as I have a ton of leftovers from both projects. You do however get a LOT of yarn for a low price which is helpful if you are new to crochet, or are saving for scrap yarn or more projects. Lastly, this yarn is steam/low heat safe as I used it to flatten/relax the yarn, making it look very nice in the pic I attached :)

I do know how to crochet and I got the whole bag put together, but the instructions for the handles are totally confusing. It says to fasten off after you have made it 16 inches long and to weave in the ends and then it goes on to say finish by working six double crochets into the other side of the bag. How are you connecting these two together?

Such a fun project and functional bag! YouTube videos are great for understanding how to make a granny square, and likely necessary if you are a beginner. The yarn feels cheap, but is a reasonable quality for the cost of the convenient kit.

Instructions are difficult to follow even for visual learners. Also not written in mind for those who are left handed
