Q: Are these bottles and accessories safe to sterilize via a pot of boiling water?

submitted by New mama - 6 months ago
  • A: The Dr. Brown's glass bottles and their parts are safe for sterilizing in a pot of boiling water for 3-5 minutes. The silicone sleeve can remain on the glass container during the sterilization, it does not need to be removed. It is best to place the glass in the room temp water and allow it heat up gradually to boiling point to prevent cracking.

Q: Do you have to use internal green parts?

submitted by Gg - 8 months ago
  • A: The internal vent system in Dr. Brown’s bottles is what makes our bottles the best bottle for helping reduce colic, spit-up, burping and gas, preserving nutrients in breast milk and formula, and providing baby a feeding experience much like breastfeeding. Simply put, baby will have the best feeding experience with Dr. Brown’s bottles when using the internal vent system. Baby’s digestive system is usually the last system to fully develop, so it’s important to use the internal vent system until you see improved feeding habits. Here are some signs of improved feeding habits: • They are able to sit up on their own • They have begun some solid food • They are not showing signs of colic, gassiness, or reflux Make sure to speak with your pediatrician before making any changes to your baby’s feeding.

    Bottles leak!!

I cannot stress how much these bottles suck—every single style made by this company. They all leak! The plastic ones seem to actually seep from the sides of the bottle, but the glass and plastic ones leak from the lid/nipple. Originally I had the plastic bottles, so I got the glass ones thinking that would fix it, but the glass leaks just as bad as the plastic! The worst part is that the company is aware of it and when I called to ask, I was sent some different lids and given tips to address the leaking, none of which have helped. This company either needs to fix their products or go into a different business.

I wanted to love their glass bottle, however they are super tedious to clean! Also they spill & leak ALL THE TIME! I always have to assure the cap is on or it will spill all over my super bag. I would say it’s not worth the price.

I have always used the plastic version but for this baby I wanted glass as it is less toxic. Be very careful, the neck park chips! For as pricey as these are I expected better. Highly disappointed that after I invested so much money into these bottles, I have to find an alternative. Chipping, especially around the neck does not seem safe.

I been using for a while, but out of the blue when I was washing one it cracked on the top and cut my hand . I love that they don’t stink up and for being glass they aren’t that heavy, but now I’m scared that they going to break like this again.

Had this on my registry and was so excited to receive it, only to find both bottles were shattered on arrival. It makes me question the durability, so unfortunately will be sticking with plastic Dr. Brown’s.

I really want to love these because these are the only bottles my twin girls love and will drink from but they break SO EASILY. I’ve had to repurchase probably 6 in the past MONTH because I somehow end up with a crack in them. I am super delicate with them since they’re glass so I’m pretty sure it’s nothing I do but when I heat them up in the bottle warmer they have somehow cracked (this happened twice). I really want to stick with glass since I pre make there bottles before hand and it gives me peace of mind compared to using the plastic ones but I shouldn’t have to keep repurchasing because of how fragile they are.

Great bottles but not accurate measurement lines!!

Nibs - 7 months ago, Verified purchaser
We love these bottles, and they helped with my infant son's gas and spit-up. But be careful! The measurement lines are off. I found this out from a few other moms. So, I tested it using a measuring cup first and poured the water into these bottles. They were right. These bottles are nearly a half ounce off. My baby is already dealing with constipation, and not knowing this made it worse. I hope they fix this. It's not right! You also will also most likely need a funnel to get the formula into these bottles because the top is so narrow.

Misleading, only contains one glass bottle and one is plastic. Otherwise, I like Dr. Brown’s bottles. We wanted to upgrade to glass over plastic because it holds up to temperature changes better and is easier to clean.

We switched to these glass bottles for our baby and are glad we did. I was afraid they’d easily break, but we haven’t had that issue yet. I feel better about pre making formula and letting it sit for a few hours in glass vs in plastic, so we’ll use these as long as we can.

I have used these bottles every day for less than 2 months. Put them in the dishwasher (top rack), because they’re glass. I did no scrubbing, no extra sterilization. The markings started to wear off abruptly. Today, I was drying it with a towel and all the print smudged off onto the towel. This leaves the bottles without measurements, which I need for my former preemie. I love the bottle system, but I’m super disappointed that these glass bottles, which are more expensive, don’t last long.

Read the instructions top to bottom and those who say it leaks may not have read that you shouldn’t shake the bottles after warming, warm the bottle with the green vent inside or warm with the lid nipple combo. Followed the directions as written and have never had a problem. I always hand wash the pieces so as not to risk warping in the dishwasher.

I saw a lot of reviews about these bottles leaking but I bought them anyway to see if I could have better luck. I have learned that when warming the bottles (glass/plastic) in the bottle warmer, you need to take the green vent OUT! warming in the bottle warmer creates pressure so when you tip the bottle or shake it then it will leak! I personally warm it without the green vent and with out the cap/nipple so all pressure is released and then swirl it around before putting everything back together. I have also used room temp water and the bottle NEVER leaks. Hope this helps anyone. The green piece is very annoying to clean but I do see a difference with other bottles. Since switching to these bottles my baby is less gassy and less spit up so I deal with the annoying cleaning.

I was convinced these were the best bottles on the market and bought a supply of different sizes and tests through my baby’s 9 months … by 3 months I sincerely regretted and by 6 months I ended up throwing the rest away. The bottles (all the variations) leak, I watched al the YouTube videos went through all the tips on how to prevent leaking: to no avail. If a brand that is dedicated to only making baby bottles can’t prevent them from leaking - then it has really missed the point. Extremely disappointed as I really wanted to love these bottles given all the sconce and research behind it..but finally switched to a competitor. Couldn’t handle anymore soaked clothes smelling like baby milk.
