Q: I have really red skin (thanks Irish relatives) and I am hoping that this will help to cover most-all of it up, will this work?

submitted by Thanks Irish Relatives - 7 years ago
  • A: No. This is sheer. Goes under foundation.

submitted byHiYou - 7 years ago

Q: What is the active ingredient? I would love to know all the ingredients.

submitted by Aligal - 8 years ago
  • A: The active ingredient is 2% Salicylic acid, a go-to ingredient for fighting acne. Salicylic acid unclogs pores by exfoliating dead skin cells and oil that gets trapped and causes blemishes. Inactive ingredients include: Water (Aqua), Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Dimethicone, Butylene Glycol, Ethoxydiglycol, Propylene Glycol, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Triethanolamine, Polycrylamid, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Laureth-7, Vp/Hexadecene Copolymer, Tocopheryl Acetate (Ve), Stearic Acid, Xanthan Gum, Silica, Disodium EDTA, Panthenol, Rosmarinus Offcinalis (Rosemary) Extract, Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Extract, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Extract, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol

Okay, not exactly as advertised

Issue #1: The product is not tinted green. It looks green in the bottle but it comes out pure white. It dries completely clear so it does nothing to help hide red spots or discoloration. Issue #2: People with blemishes often have uneven skin, with craters or enlarged pores. I would expect a product geared towards that to help smooth my face out. It's too thin to do that, in fact it doesn't smooth out my face or my makeup at all. This is a good product for people without blemishes, unevenness, etc. If you have perfect skin and want something light to help keep your makeup on then this is for you. As for me, I will stick with mixing my two old primers together for help with my blemishes.

Terrible

I had the exact same problem with the calming water cream sadly. For the few days that this product did work, I found it significantly improved my acne but sadly it began peeling terribly almost instantly after application, no matter how long I left it to dry. This formula has serious hope but the peeling makes it impossible to use.

I don't think this prevents acne.

I haven't experienced any peeling like other reviewers have said, but I feel like it doesn't do as advertised. It goes on nicely, but my skin becomes oily by the end of the night which has caused mini break outs. I love ELF products so I am going to try another.

Can't even use

I bought this a while ago and used it max three times because it peels off. People mentioned it could be related to the foundation you use, but it creates some sort of eraser dust on your face as you apply it. I didn't even get to apply foundation because it doesn't distribute well, it dries up and starts rolling up or whatever.

I have very dry skin. I would not recommend using this product if you have dry skin. I know the label says “blemish control”, but I thought this product would work more as a barrier, but instead it has salicylic acid in it which I don’t think belongs in a primer, ecspecially for dry sensitive skin. After a couple days of using this, I started noticing extreme dryness, tightness and burning after removing my make up, I did not have these symptoms before using this product. Also I use oil based concealer and foundation and this made my make-up cake up. I should have read the ingredients before purchasing, but I will be returning this product.

Not Green! - Sticky make-up surface

1 out of 5 stars
MissQ123 - 1 year ago
originally posted on elfcosmetics.com
I've used both the Tone Adjusting Primer and the Poreless Primer from Elf and loved them both. This one, however, is a strong no from me. First, the product itself is not green! I thought half the point was to counteract redness, but no. It does nothing to make my skin look better, if anything it looks worse, because it makes my face shiny. It also leaves a kind of sticky surface, making it so much harder to blend out concealer. In contrast, the Tone Adjusting Primer is actually purple, evens out my skin tone, and creates a matte, smooth surface that my make up loves gliding over. TL;DR - Hard pass. Makes your skin shiny and sticky. No redeeming qualities. Try the Tone Adjusting Primer instead.

Check the ingredients

I tested this initially using my foundation, not realizing that the foundation was silicone based and NOT water based, like the primer is. The foundation peeled off my skin. Then, testing it out with my water based concealer, it didn't peel at all and worked fine! A lot of people who have problems with peeling when it comes to this product are likely experiencing the first example I gave. Check your ingredients before you buy!

No idea why but this size bottle of the blemish control works WAY better than the larger bottle. The large bottle peels and flakes. The formula on the smaller bottle is much better and dries quickly and you don’t get any peeling when you put out foundation on top.

I LOVE this primer. It always does the job! My pores disappear immediately after applying this primer and the elf primer that helps remove the appearance of large pores. I like to mix the two together and it makes my makeup last all day in ANY conditions. Especially if you prep correctly and set.

Keeps oils at bay

I have been buying this for years, I must have bought at least 4 bottles before I joined the beauty squad :( so no points. This is a staple if I am wearing makeup. I have extremely oily skin, like beads of oils form 15 mins after cleansing and this helps to stop them from forming for hours. Also after cleansing, my pores do look smaller. I will continue to buy this, I need it

Love this primer but wish it came in a bigger bottle as I ran out VERY quickly - not worth for how much you get but still a good primer!
