Earth Balance Original Buttery Spread is a butter alternative that offers all the deliciousness of butter without the dairy. This used to be my favorite spread. Now something changed, not to the better. It doesn’t spread, it tastes really bad. So bad I will change to a different brand. I rather pay much more for something that tastes well.

I didn’t even realize Earth Balance was dairy-free until after using it. It takes just like butter. I won’t be using anything else form here on. Wonderful taste and good value for money.

Been using Earth Balance for 20yrs. Thought it was perfect for vegan baking/cooking. Now they ruined it!! Not sure how, but it used to soften at room temp after a few minutes, now solid rock! Suggests lipids went way up! Tastes horrid, like lard. Will never buy again.

No longer spreadable as of the last few tubs purchased - hard, waxy and crumbly as others have mentioned; tears bread repeatedly. Please bring back the previous formulation. I’ve used this product for ages and will now be looking for a replacement. Bummer.

Not like it used to be. The texture is waxy and it no longer spreads. The flavor is not the same, either. I will be changing my choice in the future.

I have been buying this for years but the consistency of the last ones have changed. The new version is very hard and a pain to spread. That defeats the purpose of a “spreadable” margarine. I will stop buying this brand now.

So disappointed with whatever change was made to this product. It is hard to get out of the container and is not spreadable. It has become frustrating to use. I have switched to a different brand and will continue to do so until this issue has been fixed. I used to love this product. It was my go to for years.

This is a staple in our home, where we cannot digest lactose. Some of my family is very picky about substitutes and grew up consuming the real thing, so it says a lot that they enjoy this one. Due to concerns about soy in relation to hormones, we prefer the soy-free variety, although we enjoyed the original until we ran across this alternative. We use it in cooking, on toast or sandwiches, pan frying — exactly as you’d use any type of butter. And best of all, it’s healthier! Using products like Earth Balance, we’ve had record low cholesterol.

Sometime over the past year, the formula/ingredients of this so-called buttery spread were changed, so that now, it’s not spreadable at all. Instead, it’s hard as rock, and it flakes off when you try using a knife (or even a spoon) to take some out to put on your bread, bagel, etc. Plus, this product took forever to soften & melt on my bagel, even though it was freshly toasted and piping hot when I put the spread on it. I tried both the organic and regular versions of this Earth Balance buttery spread, and I had the same problems with both. I definitely wouldn’t recommend.

I wish I could give this ZERO stars. I threw away so many ruined desserts today. I am a small business owner who depended on Earth Balance. I had butter from the old formula and some from the new formula. Some desserts were fine - some were disgusting. I have been trying to figure out what was making my frosting taste strange. How could you not announce this ?!?!?!??

I have been using the soy free spread, in my gluten free/dairy free/nut free cooking for years. For the first time, with not having changed a single thing in my recipe or cooking process, the cookies crumbled at the slightest touch. The cake was dry, and the spread would not combine smoothly in the icing. Whatever was done to change the formulation should be immediately scrapped. I will be looking for something wlse to use going forward.

I’ve used Earth Balance for many years & have always loved it-up until now!! The texture is no longer creamy, it is crumbly. What is going on? Has the recipe changed? Regardless, what has been done to it is not good. There are plenty of new vegan butter spreads available, so I’ll be trying one & likely switching to it. Time to dump whoever changed the recipe!👎

If I could give the new version of Earth Balance “whipped” Buttery Spread zero stars, I would. I have used Earth Balance for many years and loved its spreadable texture, as well as flavor. Whatever was recently done to change the recipe has totally ruined it. The texture is so hard that it is nearly impossible to even remove it from the container, let alone spread it on anything. What were you thinking, Earth Balance? I definitely would not recommend this product…..who needs the frustration?

I have used earth balance for 20 years exclusively. The new formula is unspreadable- even after sitting on the counter for 20 minutes. I have to scoop it out and microwave it to soften. I’ll be finding a new product to use.
