This book was amazing. I couldn’t stop reading it. I’m mad at myself for not slowing down because it ended too soon. I highly recommend.

I couldn't put this book down, and now that I've finished it I know it'll stay with me. The writing is stunning. Westover captures how soul crushing it is for a child to grow up in a family whose members insist that up is down and black is white, a family where she is subjected to violence and then told by the parents who should have protected her that it wasn't real. It was striking to me that, although her community taught that women should be subservient to men and have limited roles in the world, it was often men, her brother, her bishop, and her professors at BYU and Cambridge, who believed in her and helped her believe in herself.
