Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave - Nintendo Switch 2 (Digital)

The most balanced and optimized FE yet, with great storytelling, art, and a plethora of new classes. The amount of content and pacing is very well done, with plenty of time to build a team, explore the map, and read into the lore. The quality of life updates really stand out the most to me so far as well. If your team is under leveled, there will be a point later to help weak units as well as promoting them for free. Fixing and upgrading weapons is cheaper too, as later you have to use combat arts as the game gets substantially harder. Hard difficulty is actually way harder than maddening was for me on Three Houses or Engage, as the battles are almost an hour+ long later and you can't spam broken hero abilities or abuse avoid mechanics from certain classes. They rebalanced all the broken abilities and passives from past games, and nerfed the superpower attacks as the character you chose (you lose health each battle, and lose health permanently for that battle if you're not careful). So unlike past games, you can't overpower a map with a special ability as much. Also I like that every character is usable and important later, regardless of what tier they may be (you need literally everyone and anything to help you later it's that hard lol). It felt like they wanted you to focus on the story without grinding 100%. On the first part of the game I made so many mistakes and missed so much stuff, but most of it worked out later to where it didn't matter a ton. Finally there are 4 characters to pick from and you can switch between them at anytime. Each story and route is beautiful, and you get a balanced team initially from the get-go. Your progress merges later on too, including characters you recruited. Really any of these starting teams can be powerful, and all provide good coverage for every battle initially. But yeah, I really like this FE because of the optimizations, story and less complicated combat. You don't need to study or min/max builds from YouTube but do need a synergized team and good 2 range equipment and heavy hitting, higher level class attacks later. The new classes are dope, and takes the franchise to new heights. The amount of content is staggering, and makes this the best FE for me to date.

This isn't a review for the game itself, but Target's handling of pre-orders. I pre-ordered the game 2-3 months before release date, and here it is almost a week after release and I still haven't received the game, and there's no option to return or cancel the order until after I receive it. There should be an actual benefit to pre-ordering.
