Description
The advanced electrochemical CO sensors detect carbon monoxide leaks from multiple sources, such as faulty fuel-burning appliances, blocked chimneys, and generators running inside or too close to homes. When CO levels become elevated, a loud 85-decibel alarm alerts you to the threat.
Because CO evenly distributes itself, it's important to have a CO detector on every level and in every bedroom of your home. Designed to be simple to use, each CO detector has just one button that silences or tests the unit, as well as an end-of-life timer that lets you know when it's time to replace the device.

Q: Do these have to be installed on a wall or ceiling, or can they just be placed on a horizontal surface such as a table or counter?
A: Thank you for reaching out. Yes - this can be placed on a table or shelf.
submitted byMoscoe Group - 3 years agoBrand expertA: Thank you for your question. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends that a CO Alarm should be centrally located outside of each separate sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms. For added protection, install additional CO Alarms in each separate bedroom, and on every level of your home. With that being said, we recommend installing on a wall for best protection.

Q: How do you know the difference between an alarm beeping meaning it needs a new battery, vs. meaning its detecting dangerous monoxide levels?
A: Thank you for your question. For the low battery warning, the light continues to flash (RED) and the horn also “chirps” once every minute. This warning should last for up to 30 days, but you should replace the batteries as soon as possible. When dangerous levels of CO have been detected, the light flashes rapidly and horn sounds loudly (repeating 4 beeps, pause).
submitted byFirstAlertProductExpert - 4 years agoBrand expertA: If battery is low the alarm will give a single chirp sound about every 60 seconds. If it is picking up carbon monoxide it will be 4 beeps together then a pause and this pattern will repeat. Also, any questions can also be referred to our Customer Support call center @ 800-323-9005

Q: How does the battery go into the alarm? I find getting batteries in and out of most smoke and CO alarms very difficult. I have broken several alarms due to poorly designed battery compartments in both First Alert and Kidde alarms. Thanks.
A: Thank you for your question. To install the batteries: 1. Flip the battery door down to open. 2. Install both AA batteries (included) inside the battery compartment as indicated. Make sure the “+” and “–” ends of each battery are aligned properly. A chirp will be issued. 3. Close the battery door

Q: How many sq feet of space can one device cover and detect?
A: The recommended installation areas, per the National Fire Protection Association, is that the CO Alarm should be centrally located outside of each separate sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms. For added protection, install additional CO Alarms in each separate bedroom and on every level of your home. If your bedroom hallway is longer than 40 feet, install a CO Alarm at both ends of the hallway. This hallway length is the only time a measurement is specifically called out. For our home, we had just installed a combination heater/AC unit in our attic and were required to place a CO Alarm in every bedroom and living space, family room and living room, in the house.
