DEFECTIVE MAT - Top layer adheres to next layer, rips mat
1 out of 5 stars

The product was clearly defective upon removing the plastic. As I unrolled it, there were rips and imprints from the previous layer. It was like the coloroing or covering of the map glued it together. I tried washing the mat with water and dish soap, and then folding the front together, thinking it was just the back of the mat which had the adhesive issue. When I unrolled the mat the next time, large pieces of the top coating ripped off. Please see photos. This is one of the most disappointing experiences from Gaiam. This product or specific batch should have never gone to market.
Sweat stains won't come out

For the first 6 months, the mat worked and cleaned great. Now, I can't get any sweat stains out, so I have this gross looking dried sweat blob on my mat that won't come out. Also, the edges wrinkled up from being rolled the opposite way it was delivered, which was only for a week, but still kind of odd it happened. *review sourced from Gaiam

This mat is almost perfect...The first 2 I purchased like this were! This one is a smaller size. I very much wish that it was the same size as the other two I previously purchase. They have been wonderful mats, and have had countless classes and home practice on them. I am not a large person. 5' 5' 120 lbs. However, I am very flexible, and the length of this mat is a challenge from me. I really need the extra 8"" the previous mat offered. PLEASE PELASE BRING BACK THE EXTRA WIDE EXTRA LONG in this material! *review sourced from Gaiam

When I unrolled the mat, it was super sticky and hard to unroll. Parts of the design and top layer pulled off when unrolling resulting in a ugly looking mat, not the beautiful design and color I had hoped for. For the price that I paid, I really expected more. Years ago I purchased the same style mat and was so happy with the wear and tear I had no second thoughts on ordering another. As previously stated, so disappointed. *review sourced from Gaiam

The thickness of the mat makes for comfortable yoga and stretching. Unlike other mats, I don't have problems being on my knees (or a knee) with both hands off the ground. The nonslip surface is nice and I NEVER feel like I'm about to slip off my mat when I'm in downward dog. This is my favorite mat I've used! *review sourced from Gaiam

I have used a Gaiam 5mm mat for yoga for several years and it's by far the thickest and most grippy I've ever used. I don't need any other accessories to get my feet and hands to stay put. I recently bought another one not knowing about the guarantee because the ""old"" one (about 4-5 years) was starting to wear out. I have noticed that when I unrolled the new mat, pieces of the backing came off on the top of the mat. I tried to wash them off but they won't budge. They may just wear off over time but I wanted Gaiam to know this. Maybe it's defective? *review sourced from Gaiam

I have continuously bought this mat for 15 years. It has always lasted me a really long time. It used to be called The Sol mat, but ever since they changed the name to dry performance it is definitely not the same. The mat is more narrow. It feels like it is made with cheaper material and not as sticky as the old one. The bottom slides on wood like it's on ice which is super dangerous when pushing off the wall to a headstand. I have always loved this mat the most out if all the other high end mats out there, but this newer version is not something I would buy again. RIP the original Sol mat *review sourced from Gaiam

Dust magnet

I use it everyday, but every other day surface needs to be cleaned as the surface is a dust magnet. A flannel with sticky surface is not enough, a wet rag with soap dish just moves the dust around and never got a feel that it is properly cleaned. I have to repeat this futile process every two days. Will end up in the trash soon. *review sourced from Gaiam

I first bought this mat about 10 years ago as a replacement for my Lulu ""THE mat."" I loved it. It worked just as well as the Lulu at absorbing sweat, and it was less expensive. I sweat a lot during practice--even in non-heated classes--especially my hands. It's really annoying. This mat completely eliminated the slip, so I've remained loyal. I've gone through a few of these Gaiam performance dry-grip mats over the years, but my latest purchase is bringing me down. Gaiam seems to have quite literally cut the corners this time. Besides the mat's rounded corners, it feels like it has a tad less cushioning. And the top layer of the mat kinda bunches up under my toes and feet when I'm in down dog. And worst of all, both my feet AND hands tend to slip around. I don't feel secure in my practice anymore. Gaiam, please bring back the old Performance Dry-Grip mat. It was perfect. *review sourced from Gaiam

I love this mat so much!! I've tried so many over the years and ultimately my sweaty hands were always causing issues with poses like downward dog. FINALLY I found a mat that I don't have to do any additional work in my fingers/hands/wrists/arms to keep me from slipping, no matter how sweaty my hands are! I stay put on this mat. And it's so cushy under me on the hard floor, I don't end up with sore knees after a long session now. Love it!! *review sourced from Gaiam

I purchased this mat late 2018. My classes were conducted on hard flooring and I am a heavy person who wanted cushioning, good grip and a cute style mat. I have used it fairly sporadically, without another layer on top such as a yoga towel. I have sprayed it with mat cleaner sometimes, other times a wipe with water and drape over a chair in shade to air dry. My disappointment with it is that the surface hasn't lifted from the foam like others have complained about, but that the top layer rubs off after repeated use. I have kept using the mat but every time I end up with purple dust on my hands, knees and feet especially. If I wore light coloured clothes I'm sure it would stain them. The most affected areas are the top and bottom of the mat where my hands and feet grip for down dog especially. It's disappointing for a premium mat to do this so I won't be repurchasing. The mat is also kind of heavy. *review sourced from Gaiam
