A: There are spring pins in the horizontal rail at the bed frame level that when pulled, release the rail to glide towards the floor. That said, this rail set requires a metal frame bed, like a hospital bed to anchor the spring-loaded clip. It will not work on conventional mattress box springs bed. It is steel and very heavy-duty. I'm very pleased with the construction.

Q: What bed frames will this attach to? Or can it work with a regular box spring under the mattress?

A: The bed I used is an old, metal frame hospital bed with manual crank adjustment. Each horizontal pole that lays across the bedframe width has a spring-loaded anchor that works similar to a traditional toilet paper holder by anchoring first one side, then the other against and inside the metal bed frame. It will not work work conventional mattress and box springs. It is heavy-duty steel and not flimsy at all. I'm very pleased with the durability.
