About the Book

On her way to deliver vaccines to a mining town in the Montana Territory, Ingrid Chastain never anticipated a terrible accident would leave her alone and badly injured in the wilderness. When rescue comes in the form of a mysterious mountain man, she's hesitant to trust him, but the journey ahead will change their lives more than they could have known.

Book Synopsis

Ingrid Chastain readily agreed to accompany her father to deliver vaccines to a mining town in the Montana Territory. She never could have anticipated a terrible accident would leave her alone and badly injured in the wilderness. When rescue comes in the form of a mysterious mountain man who tends her injuries, she's hesitant to put her trust in this quiet man who seems to have his own wounds.

Micah Bradley left his work as a doctor after unintentionally bringing home the smallpox disease that killed his wife and daughter. But his self-imposed solitude in the wilds of Montana is broken when he finds Ingrid in desperate need of medical attention, and he's forced to face his regret and call on his doctoring skills once again.

Micah can't help but admire Ingrid's tenacious determination despite the severity of her injuries, until he learns the crate she brought contains smallpox vaccines to help quell a nearby outbreak. With Ingrid dead set on trekking through the mountains to deliver the medicine--with or without his help--he has no choice but to accompany her. As they set off through the treacherous, snow-covered Rocky Mountains against all odds, the journey ahead will change their lives more than they could have known.

Lots of Adventure

In the snowy Montana mountains, survival is not guaranteed. The setting of this book alone was enough to keep my interest, because of the inherent danger. With all the adventure, this survival story was one that kept me reading! Micah had become somewhat of a recluse after his wife and daughter died. But when his doctoring skills were needed, he did not hold back. He was tenderhearted toward and protective of Ingrid, animals, children, and anyone in his care. He was a man who did the hard work to get things done. Ingrid was devoted to her father and his work of helping people. She was also devoted to God, which helped her through the trials she endured. She also had an unbelievably high tolerance for pain. This book has lots of adventure with endearing characters, and a sweet romance. I recommend it for all historical romance readers. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher, Bethany House, for review purposes. The thoughts expressed here are my own.

Author Misty M. Beller has done it again; at once delivered a captivating story that is adventurous, romantic, and compelling! Micah and Ingrid must struggle to overcome obstacles, both physical and spiritual, that stand in the way of their being and accomplishing all that God has called them to. I was swept up in the freedom and challenges that were awaiting these unforgettable characters along their journey! I’m already hooked on this series and can’t wait to get my hands on book #2! Ms. Beller never ceases to create an enticing and engrossing world of adventure and romance that you’ll find yourself loathe to leave once you’ve turned the final page!

Hope’s Highest Mountain, by Misty M. Beller, is the first book in the Hearts of Montana series. With stirring adventure, breathtaking settings, and compelling characters, this gripping historical romance novel tells an unforgettable story of courage, loss, faith, and perseverance. Set in the Montana Territory late in the autumn of 1866, this story is enriched by Ms. Beller’s vivid, sensory descriptions. Written with thoughtful detail, the setting is truly immersive and influential. From steep slopes, to treacherous paths, to hazardous weather conditions, the setting provides myriad opportunities for impactful scenes that captivate and enthrall. Relevant and authentic, the characters in this novel are truly special. When faced with terrible danger and great hardship, they display immense bravery and determination. In their care and concern for others, they go far beyond expectations. Through peril, fear, and heartache, they persevere, their faith grows, and hope is kindled. Page after page, Ms. Beller’s gift for storytelling is remarkably evident. Hope’s Highest Mountain is an utterly memorable, moving, and meaningful novel. Long will I treasure the hours that I spent savoring the story within its pages. I recommend it wholeheartedly to all readers. *I was given a copy of this novel through NetGalley and CelebrateLit. A review was not required. The review I have written is voluntary and contains opinions that are entirely my own.

Great journey through wilderness of Montana Territory

It’s another fantastic Misty Beller journey through the Montana Territory in 1866. With her skillful blending of all the senses through her written words, the author paints a beautifully haunting landscape of the untamed west and provides a plot filled with unseen dangers on a wintery mountain and complex, relatable characters who will draw you deep into their past, fears, and hopes. If you enjoy historical fiction/romance, you will definitely enjoy this book. I can’t wait for the next installment in this Hearts of Montana series. Ingrid is the daughter of a physician researcher who is traveling with her father to deliver small pox vaccines to a remote fort when tragedy hits her hard. Her sweet determination, loyal and tender heart, and unshakable faith draw the reclusive and guilt-ridden Micah our of his shell to help her in completing her quest. Micah is laden down with past failures and his journey to receiving God’s grace and mercy is raw, heart-breaking, and quite tangible. I received a copy of the book from Bethany House Publishing via Celebrate Lit Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

Wonderful Historical Fiction!

This book is a strong reminder of the horrible hardships that our forefathers suffered. Smallpox epidemics that claimed both young and old. Traveling by horse and wagon across dangerous terrain. Snow covered mountains and freezing temperatures. Uncertain futures and living alone in the wilderness. Hope's Highest Mountain has all of this but it also offers characters that have tremendous integrity and perseverance. I was touched by Ingrid Chastain as she dealt with loss and injury and the realization that she was now alone. I admired her determination to deliver smallpox vaccine even though it meant suffering intense physical pain and I felt her frustration when Micah Bradley at first refused to help her. I also understood his reluctance because Micah's heartache and tragic past had been caused by this horrible epidemic. Author Misty M. Beller's descriptive words have painted a vivid picture of the snow covered mountains in the Montana Territory and the possibility of freezing to death before help can arrive. I could almost feel the pain of broken bones with no pain relief available and the despair that smallpox might claim yet more lives! She does, however, show the comfort that can be found in prayer. Prayer is a big part of Hope's Highest Mountain and faith runs deep in the storyline. There is also a reminder that it is only through acceptance and surrender to God's Plan that we can truly find hope and comfort. And did I mention romance? Micah and Ingrid experience a strong attraction but he carries so much personal baggage---is there a chance for 'happily ever after' for them? I am so glad that I could read this first book in the Hearts of Montana series and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys adventure and romance. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and Bethany House and a positive review was not required. These opinions are my own.

Adventurous Journey

A powerful and poignant read that has a lot of action to keep the story moving. What a great beginning for the new Hearts of Montana series. It will have you on the edge of your seat one moment and swept away in the budding romance the next. Add a dog, a spunky little boy, and mischief making and you have a well rounded story. My favorite part was the growth in Micah as he learned to rely on God after having tragedy and heartache that he couldn’t get past. Ingrid is a strong willed woman who also possesses inner strength from the Lord that draws you into her world of coping after loss. The characters are very real and endure much. I could feel every bump and cold that penetrates to the bone, as the writing was so descriptive and well thought out. I hated for it to end as it was that engrossing. Can’t wait to read book two. I received a complimentary copy from CelebrateLit. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.

Captivating historical romance

Hope's Highest Mountain is another wonderful historical romance novel by Misty Beller. Having read several of her other books, I was looking forward to reading this one and found it to be as enjoyable as I'd hoped. It is a beautiful and captivating story of unexpectedly finding love in a very stressful and difficult situation and of recognizing the importance of learning to trust--trusting God to work things out and trusting one's heart. The writing style is graceful and flows smoothly as the author tells the story of characters who have to work together, trusting virtual strangers with their lives, to complete a daunting task. The author has infused the story with page-turning, nail-biting action during a treacherous mountain trip that is beset by one trial after another. Realistic situations and wonderfully descriptive scenes all work together for a delightful story. Threaded throughout the book is a faith in God--the God who gives us strength when we need it the most and the One who alone can mend broken hearts and bring hope. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more of Ms. Beller's books. I received a complimentary copy of this book via CelebrateLit. A favorable review was not required and opinions are my own. This review is part of a CelebrateLit blog tour.

"God has a plan in this . . . . We need only to make sure we follow His leading." Ingrid Chastain's plans were to accompany her father to Settler's Fort with life-saving vaccines, but when a tragic accident leaves her critically injured on the side of a Montana mountain, she suddenly has to rely on a reticent savior, a mountain man who introduces himself as none other then Dr. Micah Bradley. Micah Bradley has been battling hopelessness and despair since losing his young wife and daughter to the ravages of small pox. Happening upon the wreckage of a supply wagon, he is able to rescue the lone survivor and transport her back to his rustic camp site. The lovely young woman has suffered much and is in no shape to travel, yet she insists that they continue across the snow-laden wilderness with the contents of a carefully wrapped crate. Their journey, and that of those they meet along the way, proves that eternal hope may be found on the highest mountains as well as the darkest valleys. Readers will feel as if their own feet are slipping along the icy trails in this dramatic story of survival against all odds, as Micah's faith is rediscovered and strengthened through the sweet example of the one whom he declares that, "God kept you alive for me." I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher. The opinions stated above are entirely my own.
