Q: How much weight can this handle? Can an adult sit on it? (I would be horribly embarrassed to have this in a guest bathroom and have my guest break it. What is the weight limit? Thank you.

A: Hi DesertMomma. The weight capacity for this bench is 198 lbs/ 90 kg. We recently put it through some in-house testing with 200 lbs of sand (in four 50-lb sandbags) sitting on it over a full weekend. It did perfectly--no damage to the bench! That said, it's a short bench: imagine something about the size an adult would need when sitting outside the tub for a toddler's bath. It's only 20.875"H, and standard tubs are anywhere between 14 & 30"H. The point here is that the bench can hold 200 lbs, but a full-size adult sitting down hard can exert more force than that, especially if the seat is lower than expected and the "sit" becomes more of a "plop". Be sure it is assembled properly, with all attachments secured. And, as always, use your discretion. I hope that helps! It is a lovely little bench--and the right size for an weekend guest's laundry.

I bought this laundry bench hamper for the specific dual purposes of storing laundry to be washed and as a bench to sit on. When I finally did assembly it, I sat down on the bench and it gave way literally letting me down. I noticed afterward that the entire bench portion of the product was held by two prongs, about 1/4 inch long and certainly not enough to hold the weight of a 185 pound male. Although it may be a good hamper, it is not a good bench.

Hi BHBarry. That is a dreadful experience. I am so sorry that it left you floored. This hamper is a compact one, designed to hold about 1 load of laundry. It's 13.375 inches high, 20.875 inches wide, and 19.1775 inches deep, and made of MDF. All that to say, it should support up to 200 lbs. We are re-testing right now. I'll let you know what we find out.
