Q: Just bought a Keurig K-70 coffee maker from a thrift store & did the pre brew sequence. Made first cup and now the menu says to "descale". We use distilled water. Do we really need to descale?

  • A: And CPap machines. But thats for breathing the humidified water

  • A: We recommend descaling your brewer every 3 to 6 months depending on your water quality. Scale is harmless, but if left unattended, it can hinder optimal brewer performance. Descaling your brewer regularly helps maintain the heating element, removable water reservoir and other parts of the brewer that come in contact with water. You can find descaling video instructions here:http://krg.bz/2wHyPzo. Also, you can use distilled water in your Keurig brewer but we don't recommend it because it can change the taste profile of your coffee by making it bitter.

  • A: While you may be using distilled water, the previous owner(s) might not have. I would suggest descaling at least once for that reason alone.

Q: How many rinses till the descaler is completely out of the coffee maker after using?

submitted by GinL - 3 months ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. After descaling your Keurig coffee maker, you will need to perform at least 12 rinsing brews using fresh water to ensure that the descaling solution is completely removed. We hope this helps!
