When used every 3 months, or as often needed, Keurig® Descaling Solution safely and effectively cleanses and removes mineral buildup from inside your coffee maker which can affect brewer performance, taste, and quality of your beverages. An important step of your Keurig® coffee maker maintenance routine, Keurig® Descaling Solution keeps your coffee maker clean, performing at its peak, and beverages tasting their best. Keurig® Descaling Solution is the only Keurig® recommended cleaning solution to be used with all Keurig® coffee makers. Descaling is an important process that cleans the inside of your coffee maker. Over time, calcium deposits called scale can build up inside your coffee maker. If left unchecked, these buildups can affect the performance of your coffee maker and taste of your beverages. Keurig® Descaling Solution is an effective, fast-acting, and odorless solution which helps clean and remove calcium and mineral deposits to keep your coffee maker clean and brewing at its best. To preserve longevity of your coffee maker, we recommend using Keurig® Descaling Solution every 3 months or as often as needed (depending on the mineral content of your water, you may need to descale more frequently). Q: Just bought a Keurig K-70 coffee maker from a thrift store & did the pre brew sequence. Made first cup and now the menu says to "descale". We use distilled water. Do we really need to descale?

submitted byTim - 11 months agoA: While you may be using distilled water, the previous owner(s) might not have. I would suggest descaling at least once for that reason alone.
submitted byWillieJohn - 7 years agoA: You should never drink distilled water as it will draw calcium and other minerals from your body. Distilled water is only for irons and steamers, not consumption.

Scale is harmless, but if left unattended, it can hinder optimal brewer performance. Descaling your brewer regularly helps maintain the heating element, removable water reservoir and other parts of the brewer that come in contact with water. Also, you can use distilled water in your Keurig brewer but we don't recommend it because it can change the taste profile of your coffee by making it bitter.

For the second time after using this descaling solution in my keurig, my keurig immediately stopped working and wouldn’t turn back on again. I’ve had to replace the machine twice and both times it was after using this solution.

My poor Keurig wasn't brewing at all and was clogged. I thought it wasn't working anymore(was super clogged and made a funny noise) This stuff fixed it well. Worked like normal again and able to enjoy coffee out of my maker again. It needed to be cleaned. Yeah make sure to clean your Keurig every 3 months at least on the inside not just the outside. I'd recommend this stuff to clean the inside of your Keurig machine.

Descaling solution works well. However equivalent descaling solutions are available from many 3rd parties at significant cost reductions. Keurig throws in a few extra goodies such as rinse pods but these add too little value to offset the significantly higher costs
