I purchased this lock for ease of finger print use. Can’t use if dry hands interfere. Didn’t want screen or buttons. I have installed the touchscreen HALO. We will have to wait and see???

Kwikset Halo Touch Contemporary lock review Overall, I am liking this lock. Can’t speak to battery life as this was just recently installed. Enrolling fingerprints was easy enough and is a very similar process to adding fingerprints on a smart phone. The lock responds quickly and fingerprint recognition (and rejection) appears to be very accurate. This will be much more convenient, and more secure, than the keypad code lock that it replaced. Time will tell but at this point, I do recommend and would buy again. Just allow lots of time for installation and setup, be persistent and keep a close eye on tiny screws. Materials/Quality/Appearance A: Matte black. No dings or scratches. Weight, thickness of parts, etc. seem well made and appropriate quality for a residential deadbolt. Good appearance. Installation B-: Persistence is required. Deadbolt installation is easy enough but issues quickly escalate dealing with the wire. A small wire bundle connects the outside fingerprint reader to the control board on the inside part of the lock. The two portions of the wire connect with a small plastic connector. Instructions say to tuck the wire inside the cavity at the base of the inside portion of the lock. There is ample room for this within the lock housing but the wire from the outside piece is too short and the hard plastic connector is forced to remain in an area where there is not enough room. The wire connector either rubs/binds against the latch mechanism or pushes the housing out of alignment making the lock difficult to lock and unlock. It took several tries (4-5) before managing to arrange the wire so that the lock moved easily. This is important as it will likely impact battery life. Hard to turn likely means more power to do so and faster battery drain. Setup C: Instructions in the Kwikset app are clear enough but I ran into trouble at this point. The first thing that I found somewhat annoying is that after you have everything installed, you then have to remove the indoor cover to proceed with the setup. Removal requires a screwdriver and the removal of three screws. This gets access to three buttons inside that must be used to pair with Bluetooth and connect to Wifi. One of the buttons is for performing a factory reset which I had to do 3 times before getting all successfully connected. I am an IT professional and very experienced with network and Bluetooth devices and associated connections and the multiple factory resets should not be necessary. Also note that this same cover must be removed in order to change the batteries. Changing batteries should not require tools in my opinion. Operation A: Adding users is easy. As previously mentioned, adding fingerprints was also easy. The lock is very responsive and provides excellent convenience and security. Note that each user is limited to two fingerprints. If you work with your hands or tend to get very dry skin in winter time, this can distort fingerprints which especially applies to the index finger. There are also times when you may have a hand full. The easy workaround is to setup each user as two people; Bob left and Bob right (left hand and right hand). Then you can have two fingerprints from each hand to provide maximum convenience and easy operation if one fingerprint gets scraped or altered. The lock accepts up to 100 fingerprints so even with four for each user, that is a lot more than we will need.

Solidly built hardware & premium finish. However, that's where it ends. The iOS app is rarely updated & extremely buggy with an unintuitive GUI. Also, this thing EATS batteries. Doesn't matter if they're alkaline or lithium-ion.

Battery Drainer

I bought three of these for my house. I put the best batteries you can buy in them, i dont even use the door for a I live in another home full time. The batteries are dead by a month. This has been going on for 2 1/2 years.

This lock did not work as designed and the replacement had the same issue. I was locked out of my house a few times after they stopped recognizing my fingerprints. The replacement even disconnected from my internet service causing me to call for another replacement which I hope will work. I do have a competitors lock on the front door which has not given me any issue since installation,.

Neat in concept; replacing after only 4 months

I've had this lock installed for 4 months. In that time, I've changed the batteries 3 times. I've written to Schlage customer support and tried all of the tricks to improve battery life, and none have worked. It's effortless to turn the deadbolt manually, so the door is aligned. Further, the fingerprint recognition is very picky (a good thing), but it requires near-perfect placement of ones finger on the pad for it to activate. Even worse, when I return home from a run (and I'm perspiring, as humans do), it almost never recognizes my sweaty fingerprint, so I have to open with the app. So yes, it's neat in concept, but its execution needs more thought. I simply don't have the patience to run through a mental troubleshooting list each time I want to unlock my door. This lock will be replaced by the keypad Schlage I had previously.

Battery consumption makes it a one star lock

While the lock preforms as stated the 30 day battery life is a major failure. 30 days is only if you use a key and not the automatic feature, which drains batteries quicker. Therefore on any extended periods away from home it dies and there is no remote access you can give others, not to mention the inconvenience of a constant battery replacement regime ...if your home. Four new batteries required every 3-4 weeks is bad engineering.

Horrible Product - DO NOT BUY

App is very buggy and crashes all the time. Cannot unlock or lock door remotely even though its connected to via. It keeps saying lock is offline. Battery drain is really bad and they only last about a week even though there is an inch of clearance between deadbolt. I am on my second lock and still having the same issue of battery drain and not being able to lock or unlock when I am away from the house.

I really liked the idea of opening it with your thumb for my children! None of it works. The app freezes and loses "connection" every other day. The thumb print only works for the first day. One of my worst purchases in a very long time. Save your money and keep your keys!

Goofs concept but fingerprints don’t work

I really like the idea of a fingerprint door so I bought this. Unfortunately the door keeps loosing the fingerprints. I put them in and they work for about a day, then the door won’t recognize the. They still show on my phone so I delete and re-add. Again will work for about a day. This makes this product useless. Don’t buy this product until they work out the bugs.

The fingerprint reader is very impressive. As soon as your finger touches, it unlocks. Connecting to the app was easy and I love the restrictions and notifications you can enable with it. It works so well, is very responsive, and connects to my Google home assistant flawlessly. Install went very fast – the instructions were clear and concise. The only problem I ran into was that our 1960’s door was slightly too thin! We used shims for now because we are replacing this door in the next few weeks. But if you have an older door, check that out before you purchase. What is weird is our previous deadbolt was a Kwikset touchscreen lock so I didn’t even consider this might be a problem. Your door should be 1-3/4” to 2”, and they sell a kit for doors thicker than that. Setup went flawlessly with the app, connected to my Wi-Fi, and got my family members’ fingerprints all set up with the lock. I then connected to my Google Home and can now lock and unlock my door with my voice! My favorite part is the fingerprint reader works so well – we have had zero issues with it recognizing our fingerprints. It works better than our cell phone fingerprint reader! It also locks and unlocks instantly once you touch the pad, no wait and no delay. You can store up to 50 different fingerprints in your account. The only thing is if you want to use this lock to let in a pet sitter, guest, or handyperson, you would need to meet with them in person to set up their fingerprint first. There is no way to add someone’s fingerprint remotely, so this probably would not be a good lock for an AirBnb where someone needs access and you aren’t there with them. Love love love it!!!

My door handle set had seen its better day so I decided to upgrade the lock as well as the latch. I am not very mechanical but the installation took about 20 minutes to install but I am not that handy. The wifi app set up was convenient. You enter two fingerprints per person and up to 50 people can have access without the key. It was a snap to download the app and fairly self explanatory to use. Now I can go out for a run without my key and still be assured of the security of my possessions. It is great to bring in your groceries without fiddling for your keys. I highly recommend.

It doesn't get any easier than the Halo Touch Fingerprint Wi-Fi Enabled Smart Lock. It took about 30 minutes to install and using the directions provided, I was able to program the fingerprints of all my family members so that it would make it easier for us to get in and out of the house. I also like that there is a key just in case there is an issue with the fingerprint system; I like having the back up option. That being said, I've been using this for about a month and have had no issues with the fingerprint system at all. It is able to recognize my prints right away and haven't had any issues with non-recognition. It's also water and snow proof as I found out a couple of days ago and is still able to recognize my prints in the middle of a snowstorm. It locks and unlocks within seconds and and can be connecting to your existing Wi-Fi system. I hate having to buy extra tools, but didn't have to in this case which makes it a huge win. The app you can download is also super intuitive and easy to use. You can actually lock and unlock from the app as well so if you have guests coming, this is another handy feature. I'm definitely a huge fan and couldn't recommend this smart lock enough. It's simple design makes it convenient, secure and innovative. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an easy to use smart lock that will keep your home secure and has smart features.
