Q: Why did you put "Alcohol Denat" as the 4th ingredient? That is very drying to the skin.

I’m not usually one to write reviews and I normally love La Roche Posay products. The first time I used it I thought I liked it! However, I just used it last night and have a horrible breakout all over my cheeks, a place where I never get acne. They are red, itchy and burn. This is the only thing different about my skin care routine and I don’t typically have particularly sensitive skin. I think the niacinimide concentration is too high.

I have combination skin and I’m 20. I have extremely oily T-zone, I suffer from rosacea in my jaw(or dry skin) and sometimes during the winter my cheeks tend to peel. My skin tends to be sensitive but most of the time it’s my fault or for using certain products. The thing is that this is the only niacinamide that works wonders without leaving my face feeling oily and feeling hydrated. I hate when people leave reviews without explaining what they did wrong before applying whatever they disliked, most of the time has to do with them using the wrong face wash or maybe exfoliating too much. Today I used the dermalogica exfoliate and I didn’t go as gentle, and when I applied the niacinamide I did feel tingling but it did not do anything bad or peeled my face. I use a face mask from laneige with cica after applying this serum and I felt some irritation going on for a few seconds but it went away. That doesn’t mean it’s the products, it was me going too harsh. The thing is that it works wonders and it’s the only serum that has worked for me and even though it has some fragrance (or maybe not but it smells good) it does help my skin. I’ve been using it for less than 3 weeks and I noticed an improvement with my pores, oiliness and my skin looks a bit brighter and smooth. For the price, it’s definitely worth it. If you use the right amount it can last for at least 3 months (being sincerely honest) it depends on your skincare of course. Do not expect this to work by itself either, if you’re buying a serum this expensive, then you should have a good skin care routine as well.

The only thing I don't love is the price of this serum, but there's a reason. It. Works. I was gifted a teensy tiny sample from Target when I stopped in their beauty section, and I'm at cut the top open to get every last drop level of obsessed. I actually tried to purchase a cheaper niacinamide after finishing this, thinking it was just the niacinamide and a cheaper product would work, but no. Something about this has me hooked and will splurge for it. I will say this product does have some type of fragrance. I don't know if it's added fragrance or if that's just the scent the ingredients mixed make, but it's there. I don't mind it, but could see someone sensitive to scents minding.
