    Bad butter

I bought the Land O lack unsalted butter and disappointed in this product. We usually cooke butter and do ghee. The color of product was dirty gray. While warming the batter has synthetic smell. I read possible cause can be bad and rude treatment of cows who were fed unknown food (surely not grass, that cows supposed eat). Or it can be additional substances which not included in the list of ingredients. Try to buy butter that produced from grass feed cows

This is more of the question but I will say I have been eating this for my whole life and it's great. And this may sound dumb as there are only two ingredients, but I'm just making sure, does it contain any animal-deprived ingredients, excluding the milk. Thanks :)

Thank you for your kinds words and question. Besides the sweet cream, there are no other animal derived ingredients.

    Disappointed

Always loved your butter for baking and candies. However, I feel you've changed how it's made now. Melts just fine, but separates. Cookies come out flat, toffee is grainy. I'm part of an online group for people to share recipes and most of the people are saying you've changed the recipe and decreased the fat content in your butter. Is this true? I'm really upset as I'm the one in my family who makes all the Christmas cookies and candies and the majority failed this year. And am hearing this to be true for many, many others this year. Have been a loyal customer until now.

Natural Flavors are not just matural

Don’t be deceived by the term natural flavors. This only means they started with a natural product, but have added a a huge variety of non-natural ingredients to enhance the taste.
1 reply from Consumer Affairs team - 2 years ago
Thanks for taking the time to write a review. The natural flavoring in our Unsalted Butter is lactic acid produced by the fermentation of sugar. It gives unsalted butter a more cultured flavor and has been used in our unsalted butter for many years. If you have other questions, please give us a call at 1-800-328-4155.

What have you changed with your butter, it’s like a dry and waxy hard stick that doesn’t soften even when left out overnight. It will melt but seems to separate and it doesn’t even taste like butter now. I won’t be purchasing it any longer. It’s awful now.

    CONTAINS SOY?

    5 out of 5 stars

I have always used LandoLakes butter when I bake. My daughter-in-law has a soy allergy. I was going to make her cookies. Then I read that the unsalted butter has natural flavoring. That is usually a sign that the product contains soy. So, does the unsalted butter contain soy? How about the salted butter?
1 reply from Consumer Affairs team - 3 years ago
Thank you for your question. Both our unsalted and salted stick butter do not contain soy. We recommend you refer to your package for the most accurate allergen information as we provide the information required by the FDA.

    Natural Flavorings in ingredient list

Made some Oat Jam bar that didn't come out as good. Anyone find out if the added "natural flavorings" has something to do with it? Is this msg or some kind of fermentation? I found that Challenge and TJ's did the same. I will stick to Kerrygold now or just buy salted only & leave out the salt.
1 reply from Consumer Affairs team - 3 years ago
Thanks for your review and questions, and we apologize your recipe did not turn out well! Without more information about the oat jam bar recipe you used, it’s hard to know what might have caused it to not turn out well, but what we can say is that salt and unsalted butter can be used interchangeably in recipes and natural flavoring would not impact the recipe performance. The natural flavoring in our unsalted butter does not contain MSG and is lactic acid made from fermenting sugar. It gives unsalted butter a more cultured flavor and has been used in our unsalted butter for many years. Please watch for an email from us so we can learn more about your experience.

    Why Add Natural Flavoring?

    1 out of 5 stars
Bummed By Bad Butter - 3 years ago
    originally posted on landolakes.com
Something is different in the last few boxes of unsalted butter I’ve used. Like many other reviews, I find it seems to have more water, or a lower fat content, it’s greasier, not a good butter flavor. Then, I noticed one of the ingredients is “natural flavor”. Isn’t unsalted butter supposed to only be cream? The last few boxes are bad enough to make me stop using Land O’ Lakes butter.
1 reply from Consumer Affairs team - 3 years ago
Thank you for your email. The 80% fat content of our butter has not changed. Years ago, unsalted butter was made with cream that was soured. When fresh, sweet cream was used for making unsalted butter, natural flavoring was added to give the slightly tart cultured flavor. Watch for an email coming from us soon.

Thanks for the question. The cream is pasteurized before it is churned into butter. We will forward your comments onto our packaging team and let them know you would like our package labeled as pasteurized.
