Q: does this count real money

submitted by vlc - 1 year ago
  • A: Thank you so much for reaching out. Yes, the Learning Resources Pretend & Play Teaching ATM Bank can be used with real US money as a savings bank. The coin reader reads both real US coins and the included plastic Learning Resources coins. Bills are entered manually so you can put real or pretend bills into the bank. If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out on our site under the “Contact Us” page and we would be happy to help answer any.

Great concept but we ended up ordering two and both malfunctioned. We tried multiple batteries. Wording and sound did not work appropriately. Disappointing.

Sometimes works and other times it doesn't. If/when it works, the sound is garbled. Coin identification is inaccurate at times. Quality is poor.

This little ATM requires a little time for the younger ages. First, you should secure the coins until you're confident swallowing is no threat. The dollar bills will get demolished but that is the fun of it - they definitely got used. Mechanically, this toy is fun because you can punch numbers and it makes noises, and you can stick a card in and make deposits. It's a strange mix of advanced thinking/strategy and surpassing the age when kids would be advanced enough to really utilize all the features. I am looking forward to bringing it out when my daughter is a little old and able to effectively do what it intends.

Durable and fun, probably more for 4-5 year olds

As a former elementary school teacher of nearly 30+ years, I thought this would be a good toy for my grandchildren to learn values of money, and eventually math skills (addition, subtraction, etc.) and how to make proper change. The money is very realistic looking, the kids like to put it into the machine and use the ATM card, and the little ones liked to 'pay' for items. The paper money was somewhat difficult to roll into the machine but the older one (5.5 years) started to get better. The granddaughter and one of the little grandsons (2yo) liked the pink, the older one (5.5) did comment that he didn't like that it was 'for girls'. Regardless, he still played with it. A really fun toy that will certainly grow with the kids and would be a consistent go-to when they're playing other things, but I do think it should be more Kindergarten based (4-5 year olds) on the age recommendation.

Fun gift for kids

The ATM is easy to understand (sometimes the 'voice' is inaudible), the screen is easy to read, and the money looks VERY realistic. My only complaint is that the paper bills rip pretty easily when they're working to get them fed through the deposit spot and the more tape that is used by the kids to fix it, the harder it is to get them through the 'feeder'. Otherwise, this was fun, educational, the little ones kept going back to it, and the credit card (ATM card) are a big hit for other pretend-play around the house. Cute colors, like that it also comes in Red/Blue, would make a great birthday gift!

Coolest ATM Toy Ever!

I was looking for an ATM toy for my girl's playroom and this was the perfect find!! My kids see me at the ATM machine so they are familiar with having to insert a card, putting a pin number, and either depositing money or withdrawing money. The coolest thing about this is that even though it comes with fake money, it also recognizes real coins and acts like a real piggy bank! Wheather you withdraw or deposit money, it calculates your total - SO NEAT!! For bills, it's a little tricky because you have to manually enter the bill amount. Great job to the LR team in creating such a fun toy! It's our new favorite after our beloved cash register!
