"Beach Read meets The Flatshare in this warmly funny and delightfully sharp debut rom-com about a down-on-her-luck young woman who turns an innocent mix-up between a dating app and a roommate app into a new chance at love"--Book Synopsis
Beach Read meets The Flatshare in this warmly funny and delightfully sharp debut rom-com about a down-on-her-luck young woman who turns an innocent mix-up between a dating app and a roommate app into a new chance at love. She wasn't looking for love until it landed on her doorstep. After getting passed over for an overdue--and much-needed--promotion, Sadie Green is in desperate need of three things: a stiff drink, a new place to live, and a one-night stand. When one drink turns into one too many, Sadie mixes up a long-ignored dating app for a roommate-finding app and finds herself on the doorstep of Jack Thomas's gorgeous Brooklyn brownstone. Too bad she's more attracted to his impressive real estate than she is to the man himself. Jack, still grieving the unexpected death of his parents, has learned to find comfort in video games and movie marathons instead of friends. So while he doesn't know just what to make of the vivaciously verbose Sadie, he's willing to offer her his spare bedroom while she gets back on her feet. And with the rent unbeatably low, Sadie can finally pursue her floristry side hustle full-time. The two are polar opposites, but as Sadie's presence begins to turn the brownstone into a home, they both start to realize they may have just made the deal of a lifetime.Review Quotes
"A hopeful, heartwarming debut. With a relatable disaster of a protagonist and an adorably nerdy hero, this opposites-attract, roommates-to-lovers romance is a true delight." -Rachel Lynn Solomon, author of The Ex Talk "Sadie is a firecracker of a protagonist who's very aware of her flaws, and Jack is her perfect counterpart, embracing all of her rough edges with softness and understanding. Lease on Love warmly and wittily underscores that none of us are perfect, but we are all worthy, we are all enough: we all deserve to be loved, not just by others, but by ourselves too." -Sarah Hogle, author of Twice Shy and You Deserve Each Other "Lease on Love was a delight on every level. Ballard delivers a soft, sweet story with enough shadows to make the happily ever after feel that much more earned. Jack and Sadie together are real in the best ways and the cast of characters shows the unabiding love of friends and found family. This is a beautiful love story about finding something precious that seems out of reach. Lease on Love is one of my new favorite romance novels!" -Denise Williams, author of How to Fail at Flirting "Lease on Love is a crackling, compulsively readable debut about forging new career and romantic paths, finding strength in found family, and discovering what it truly means to be 'home.' I enjoyed every minute of it!" -Suzanne Park, author of Loathe at First Sight and So We Meet Again

4.5 stars I picked up Lease On Love on a whim while perusing the book section at Target, because I thought the cover was cute and the synopsis sounded cute. I didn’t really have any expectations going in with it, but whatever they were, they were exceeded. I was blown away by how much I liked this book. The book follows Sadie and Jack. Sadie is a fun, loud chatterbox of a woman. She's wasting away in a finance job but has dreams of opening her own floral shop. Without giving too much away, she gets fired from her job in a moment that had my inner feminist absolutely screaming! In a drunken, miscommunication moment, she swipes right on Jack on what she thinks is a dating app, but it's actually a roommate finder app. When they meet, Sadie thinks it's a date, Jack does NOT think it's a date, and it's highly amusing and entertaining. Ultimately Sadie decides to move in with Jack, as he has a beautiful brownstone home in Brooklyn and he's charging her basically pennies to live there; she can't pass it up. Jack is a quiet, nerdy, introverted guy; he's a bit of a mystery as he keeps to himself. Jack and Sadie build a friendship, and slowly open up to one another. She shares her dreams with him, he shares his past with her, and they form a strong bond and support one another in many ways. Because she's paying so little in rent, Sadie is able to start her own floral business. Not only does she have Jacks's support, she also has the support of her friends. She has an amazing friend group who are like family, and they welcome Jack into it as well. I love so much about this novel. The interactions between Sadie and Jack are fun and light; they have a great banter, and they bring out the best in each other. Their slow burn is slow, but the payoff is worth it. The group dynamic between Sadie and her friends is very special - they are all incredibly different, diverse, and come from different walks of life but somehow, they all fit perfectly together. On top of that, Falon Ballard is not afraid to tackle tough topics, including grief, toxic families, and promoting therapy. So not only is the novel cute, fun and romantic, but with the integration of real life struggles, it feels very real and relatable. I honestly cannot believe this is Falon Ballard's debut novel. It was well written, the characters were diverse, the plot held strong start to finish, and it makes you feel all the feels. 10/10 recommend this book - I cannot recommend it enough! It was quick and easy read. All the “bad” reviewed mention the language that used throughout the book but I found it to be not a problem. I enjoyed the book but the main character was “eh” at times.

It’s an okay book. The cursing in this book is a bit too much. Meh average love story. If you want a quick read go for it but not worth the price

Cute idea but all of the trendy language made the book very annoying to read. I had to put it down after several attempts because I just couldn’t get past the language to get into the story.

Loved these characters SO much, I didn’t want the book to end. Flawed, relatable but genuinely beautiful soles, every single one of them! The character development is so sweet, you will fall in love with all of them. The story is fresh, modern and very charming. Could not recommend more!

This was a very cute vacation book however the main character is so unbelievably unlikable and selfish and narcissistic it made it really hard to read through. Overall I would say pick up this book if you need a quick vacation read but, beware it’s got a lot of millennial buzz words in it which was a tad annoying
