Book Synopsis

From the beloved author of Just My Type and Lease on Love comes a new romantic comedy in which a former actress-turned-screenwriter finds herself back in the spotlight, only for her romantic lead to be the one man she can't stand.

Emmy Harper is no stranger to Hollywood. Daughter of a beloved celebrity couple, she's made a name for herself as a screenwriter, penning some of the most popular movies of the past decade. But her latest project has hit a standstill--unable to find the perfect leading lady, Emmy's been recruited to take on the role herself, dusting off acting skills she hasn't used in over a decade.

The prospect of headlining a film is daunting enough, but things take a turn for the worse when a series of unexpected events leaves her with the one costar she can't trust: Grayson West. A blockbuster action hero known for his megawatt smile and impossible abs, Grayson is anyone's dream of a romantic lead. Too bad Emmy still blames him for her disastrous first movie and the early end to her acting career.

When they get to set, the friction between Emmy and Grayson risks tanking the movie, and no one knows if it's lingering awkwardness from their youth or unresolved sexual tension. But if they want to save the production--and their own careers--they need to get their acts together quickly, both on and off camera.

As a fan of romantic fiction books, if I see a book that covers enemies to lovers, it’s hard for me not to take a chance on it. There are some that rush the story, others where the characters and their chemistry fall flat or where the “to lovers” part takes too long to get to and as a reader you lose interest in the characters before they redeem themselves. All that to say, while a popular trope, enemies to lovers isn’t always successful. Thankfully, “Right on Cue” is NOT one of those failures. Witty, adorable and fun, this book kept my curiosity on how romance between Emmy and Grayson would bloom from the very beginning and never disappointed. The main characters have their own quirks that give them personality. Emmy’s personality and interaction between characters gave her a fun personality without being annoying. Grayson comes off smug but it doesn’t take long to see redeeming qualities, so it’s easy for the reader to root for their eventual get together. To be honest, the plot was not super original as I’ve read the whole “movie stars who hate each other” story before,(in the last few onths in fact) but there is enough personality in Emmy/Grayson and the supporting cast to give this book it’s own twist. I really got into the story and couldn’t put this book down so if you’re looking for a fun, quick read, give “Right on Cue” fits that bill. Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group/G.P. Putnam's Sons for the advanced copy of this book!
