Best evaporative humidifier with a large capacity
4 out of 5 stars

This is the best evaporative humidifier with a large capacity out there for us... we considered the Venta (neighbor has one) and tried the Vornado 4 gallon. Venta's airflow design isn't ideal for sitting next to a wall or in the corner, which is very problematic in a tight NYC apt. 6 gallon is bigger than Vornado's 4, and the refill method is much easier. We use NYC tap water, which is soft, so folks with bad/hard water may be better off with a wicking action like the Vornado instead of pumping action like this one. Some tips: Make sure you use a water bacteriostatic additive like Essick/BestAir/Venta/etc. Or mix your own like we do... they all use some combination of a quat (we use Steramine tablets) and citric acid (we get food grade powder) or ethyl alcohol. Use the app to be able to use Humidity Fan mode instead of Humidity Smart mode or Auto, which allows you to keep the fan speed low and quiet. Things that Levoit can improve: better wheels, a bigger/taller capacity model, more fine-tuned control in the app around humidity targets. Right now, if you set a target humidity, it will kick own when humidity is target minus 5% and keep running until it gets to target. I would prefer to be able to set the range of off & on to control when it kicks on and when it goes off. We currently use the app to set it at 43% so it fluctuates in a 5% range around our ideal of 40% humidity.

I purchased this to help with the dry air in my home during winter. I have run it on the highest setting, 24 hours a day with no issues. It goes through the 6 gallons in about 24 hours. I'm very satisfied. The "dry" mode is also good to keep the filters in good shape.

This a very impressive machine, and I'm really glad we bought it. We live in a 3500 sq ft ranch style house and in winter our house gets to 20% humidity. Right away when running this it has gotten the main rooms to 30 or 35% depending on where it is. Thank tank lasts 2-3 days when running on low speed. On high, I have found I often need to fill it every day. That is the most inconvenient part, but the fill-up takes about 2 minutes total. I've verified the internal humidistat to be very accurate. Two other devices reported the same % that the Levoit reports. This contrasts with the Dreo models we have all at 10% higher than other readings. The app works well but I don't need to use it. The interface is very easy to use, and the machine is very easy to use. I haven't had to clean it yet after a month of use. The wicks look as clean as when I purchased it and the machine has been running on high the whole time. We have soft water and I think that helps keep the machine in better use for a longer time. Cleaning the machine right now is just dumping the remaining water out before refilling. We plan to get one more for the other side of the house.

Overall Quality Unit With a Few Shortcomings

Overall a decent unit, especially for the price and claimed capability for whole house use. A few issue I have with its operation after having for a couple of weeks. 1) when the unit is full of water, the wheels are less than stellar upon moving to its designated running location. It is hard to steer and requires more "push" effort than it should. 2) filling the unit is a pain. You must remove the top portion to get to the fill hole, and by doing so, results in water getting on the floor. 3) The suction unit that dangles from the filter assembly sheds water everywhere when you have to remove the mid-section for its recommended semi-daily cleaning/emptying. 4) it has trouble attempting run and stay at the set humidity level; it tends to run lower than the desired setting, only kicking it up a notch when you apparently walk by the unit stirring the air and triggering its sensor that it's too low a humidity. * The large capacity water tank is nice, the unit is relatively quiet for its size, and it has a nice remote-control app. How long it lasts is going to be key. The replacement of the 4 filters looks to be a routine expense that is not insignificant too.

This machine WILL disconnect from your wifi multiple times per week for no reason. (That error code is "ES".) You'll reconnect it back to your wifi, and it'll disconnect within seconds. The machine will turn on and off whenever IT wants to. The app will not display all operating options or any helpful info on how to fix the issue. Repeat these steps an indefinite amount of times! If that isn't enough, the filters degrade QUICKLY by mold! Your windows will have so much condensation on them that they'll sweat and mold up your window frames and window sills. You will need to clean the tank out every 3 days to prevent mold; which is a lot of upkeep (especially for those physically disabled). To close out, even if the machine didn't have any of the above problems - it's LOUD and it produces so much wind that you'll feel chilly in the room it's set up in. Get the cheaper version if you need a non-frustrating humidifier!

I only bought this unit and have been using it now for three weeks. It is an excellent unit and designed very well. Large 6 gallon reservoir and nice wheels so I can roll it back and forth between where it normally sits and where I refill it. Very convenient and practical. And they say the evaporative design is better than the ultrasonic design. One reason is the evaporative design doesn't leave surfaces wet around the area like ultrasonic do.

Very easy to set up and add to home’s WiFi. Easy to add water as needed. Once it’s set up to WiFi it’s like using your TV. Turn it on from your phone using the app and put it on auto.

I purchased this item last fall after discovering it online. I was looking for a new humidifier to replace another brand I had used for several years. The first thing that attracted me to this humidifier what the way it looked - it looked sleek and modern - something not typically found in a humidifier for sure. The ability to control it via an app on my phone was also a unique feature. It also fit my need has having a very large water reservoir. I live in Minneapolis and as you suspect the air gets very cold in the winter but it's also very very dry air - with the dew point ranging form -10 to 20 degrees normally and in my prior experience my humidifier use 4-6 gallons daily to keep the air humidified in my one bedroom condo of about 900 sf. I love how the fan directs the air upwards and hits the ceiling and spreads it out within the room very efficiently. The overall design is great - I love that it has four filters and air from all four sides comes into the device via the fan. The fan is very efficient and quiet - except at higher speeds of course, like all fans. While the device has 9 speed settings - it appears there are really only three speeds as I can't perceive any noticeable difference between speed 3 and 5 for example - it seems to go from speed 1 to 6 to 9. The night mode speed is very low and super quiet of course - the trade off is that I don't think it is fast enough to properly humidify the air overnight - so the humidity level does drop a bit overnight. I love the attractive display - as mentioned earlier - humidifiers tend to be so cheap and ugly looking - this model is something you won't mind having sitting in your room at all. The filters stay relatively clean and have had no issue with them - I typically replace them every 45-60 days - so over a winter I may replace them 2-3 times - even though they can be used longer - just my preference. The water pump motor is very quiet and you can't really even hear it running at times at is sucks up water to drip over the filters. Cleaning is fairly easy - super easy to wipe out the water tank and some of the other parts. One concern I had is they advise to not use any water treatment in the tank - so of course anytime you have standing water over time there will be some build up of slime or whatever that you'll want to keep clean. So while cleaning does take a bit more time and effort it is not burdensome but will require more attention from you for sure to keep any slime or mold buildup away. There are instructions in the app on how to clean with citric acid. Also - after removing the filters I'll spray with some Clorox bleach all purpose cleaner at least once a week to really clean off the filter frame area - again due to water always being in contact with these surfaces. Overall very happy with this item and has been an effective humidifier and I feel it is worth the higher price for the looks and features it has - way better value than another well known brand.

The unit is quiet and easy to use. The problem I've noticed the first two months using it is that the humidity does not read correctly in auto mode. I've set the unit to 45% humidity but it seems to get stuck at a high enough percentage where the unit does not turn on. I have a temp/humidity meter in the same room that reads 25-30%. Once I turn the fan on manually the unit then begins to read the humidity correctly. I'm not sure why it gets stuck but it's very frustrating. I have not had to buy filters yet and haven't seen any issues with mold. If they can fix the issue with the humidity sensor or have the unit turn the fan on to remedy the sensor issue this would be at least a 4 start review. I already updated the firmware but that did not fix the issue.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us, Zach. Please ensure that the humidifier is placed within 12 inches of a wall or in a corner as the humidity sensor cannot provide a proper reading for the relative humidity in the room. We also recommend letting the sensor air dry. If the issues persist, please contact our support team directly at support@levoit.com and mention this review. We would like to take a closer look to see how we can help!
Levoit 6000S vs Aircare 800 Series

Bought the 6000S to replace an Aircare 800 series evaporative humidifier. Levoit 6000s has many advantages. Love love the smart app on my phone to control settings and for notifications when needs to be filled. Unlike the Aircare the filters are NOT sitting in the water in the water tank. We have very hard water and had to replace the Aircare filters way more often. Also believe Levoit's drier filters may be less likely to harbor molds and bacteria. Levoit filters are also much less expensive and have to be replaced less frequently than Aircare's. Love the larger water capacity of the Levoit and the hand hose extension which makes it easier to roll the humidifier over to kitchen faucet to fill. However may be harder to roll to fill if located far from a faucet. I wish they made a somewhat smaller version of this evaporative humidifier a our bedroom which isn't locate near a filling faucet. Levoits smaller humidifiers are ultramist which create a white powder residue on nearby surfaces because of our hard water. Live in the southwest. Extremely dry air. Humidifier a must for us!

Have been running the unit on auto for 6 weeks now and it is fantastic! Quietest humidifier I've ever owned over 40 years. Running 24/7 on auto, and live in the north east, runs for 4-6 days without refill. Noticed one user complained about cleaning during refill. It's no big deal and every humidifier should be wiped down anyways. The base that you clean is so light to pick up and easy to wipe and spray down in the sink. Takes 1 minute. One minute for days of quiet comfort is a no brainer. It's rolls great when full and doesn't leak when doing so. Love the refill hose that attaches faucet. Brilliant. Overall, after 40 years of buying every brand and sizes, this stands above all others. Very very satisfied customer and look to be one for life.
Superior Humidifier, Indeed!

One of the biggest draws for this large area humidifier was that it uses tap water! We own four small ultrasonic humidifiers that require distilled water. It was a big hassle stocking up and storing gallons and gallons of distilled water ( not to mention the cost ), then having to dispose of the empty containers. We tried making our own distilled water using several pitchers with special filters. The pitchers didn’t hold a large amount of water to begin with, as they are primarily for CPAP equipment, steam irons, etc., so we were constantly having to refill them. Even with distilled water and a water treatment that was supposed to reduce mineral buildup, we were frequently having to take all four of them apart and give them a good scrubbing and washing. We put them away for the spring, summer, and fall and dreaded getting them out for this winter heating season. Then, we found Levoit! Everything about the Superior 6000S Smart Evaporative Humidifier was very appealing. We especially liked that one unit could humidify our entire large apartment, rather than four small units placed throughout; and as stated earlier, we loved the fact that it requires only tap water. We’ve been running the Superior 6000S Smart Evaporative Humidifier for a few months now, and it has not disappointed in the least! We just wheel the empty tank to the kitchen sink, rinse it out with clear water, connect the hose, fill it up, wheel it back to its spot, and put it back together in seconds. We very much like that the unit perfectly regulates the humidity throughout our apartment without us giving it a thought. It has eliminated our dry sinuses, made breathing easier, and no more static zaps! Although we don’t use the wi-fi app, what a great idea for those who do. Levoit thought of everything! We’ve read the few unfavorable reviews and frankly found some of them to be rather humorous ( ie., complaining that the full tank is hard to lift out of the bathtub ). In our experience, the Superior 6000S Smart Evaporative Humidifier is a superior product, and we’re pleased to add our review to the majority of customers who think so, too.

It worked fine, no worked great, all last dry air Idaho winter. Refilling at the kitchen sink was easy and cleaning entailed using a warm sponge for 5 minutes. However the pump seems to have not liked being dry all Summer and Fail thus the unit fails. Winter is upon us, humidity in the house is 22% and I'm ordering a new one because we need it now. I'll try to get the old one's pump replaced somehow but time requires a new one now.

This humidifier has changed my life. All of the previous humidifiers I tried were missed style and we create a white dust all over everything throughout the entire house. This humidifier has been easy to use easy to clean and has excellent mobile app functions to Connect with my home automation (I currently use Alexa devices). My only criticism is with the VeSync app itself. The auto mode cannot be adjusted so you need to set humidity manually as the temperature drops outside so that you don’t produce too much moisture to cause mold, mildew and condensation around windows and inside your walls the setting for adjustments based on outside temperature to prevent these issues it would be a five star review.

Provides excellent humidificaton in large open floor plan rooms. The unit is very quiet on both the low and medium settings. Running the unit on high is not loud or disturbing, but the noise is noticable. My parents two story home without multiple rooms has better results with 2 units (one upstairs and 1 downstairs)
