Q: How do you open this container? Are tools requred, like scissors, knife or some kind of blade? My elderly Mom may not have the strength in her hands to open this container.

A: Great question! There’s a loop that should be pulled around the container to open the pail- no tools necessary. Embedded in the blue or pink ring on top, at the front of the container look for the two finger loops to pull. We hope this helps. - Gia
submitted byGia - 3 years agoTarget staff supportA: Just like a gallon of milk, there is a plastic strip to be pulled on both sides of the lid. It does take some strength and the lid then has to be pulled open with quite a bit of strength needed.

A: No litter should be flushed. The fancy litter boxes are supposed to separate the litter from the excrement and only flush the excrement, but even that is not allowed in some areas (CA) due to municipalities not having the equipment to clean i the water properly, toxoplasmosis contamination, etc.

Q: You said that the Light-WT version-17lbs has the consistency more like powdery dirt. Does that mean it is DUSTIER? My cats are good ‘cover-uppers’-Will this powdery dirt kick out of the box easier?

A: It produced a good amount of dust for me when I poured it in. It also tracked heavily.

Q: is the light weight litter measure the same as the regular one you no longer sell at college point, meaning i know a pound is a pound, but will the volume be the same as the regular weight litter? it

A: The amount of product in the container is the same as the 35 lb litter. The light weight version is 17 lbs and the consistency is more like powdery dirt and the 35 lb litter is a heavier sand.

It doesn’t clump well and turns into a wet mess and leaves bits all over so you have to change the litter more often. And the dust is so bad that my cats are covered in it every time they use the box and I have to cover my face when cleaning because it’s everywhere. Definitely will not buy again.

Not bad litter,great price HOWEVER. No stock! Got an email saying it was back in stock in Santa Fe, had to go to store and couldn't order for pick up. Third visit shelf still empty. Please fix your stock issues. Is this item returning or not? Recommended to a friend and now it's not available. Ridiculous waste of my time!

This use to be great. The litter was lighter in color and use to clump a lot better. It does not clump well anymore just turns into a muddy texture. Don’t bother, my cat doesn’t mind it but cleaning is a hassle.

Switched from the regular Up & Up because lightweight is easier to carry... my cat has no thoughts about the change but I do. The dark color makes it difficult in some cases to distinquish urine from feces, which we need to disposed of differently. Not a huge deal, but what is a huge deal, to me, if that the clumps of urine don't remain clumped as well in the lightweight - so with the old fashioned heavy litter it was much easier to dispose of the clump. I'm switching back.

I used to LOVE this litter. Super affordable and masked the smell well. Unfortunetley, they must have changed the formula because it's now super powdery and smells so bad of urine not masking the smell at all! I literally cleaned the entire litter box and added this litter fresh and by the end of the day my eyes were watering because of the ammonia smell. Yuck.

I usually use Arm and Hammer Slide. This worked so much better. It was easier to clean the box. It did not smell at all. I'm definitely switching to this liter. It's cheaper too as an added bonus.

This is the only litter Ives used on my new kitten and he doesn’t mind it. A friend put me on this litter because it’s cheap, hides the smells and her picky cats liked it. It does track though! My kitten uses the litter box like a sand box and jumps in and out so i highly recommend using with a large mat and a litter box with a lid to minimize the jumping in and out

Target used to offer a 35lb cat litter for $12.99, but now it seems they’ve discontinued it to push their "lightweight" 21lb product for $17.99. Lightweight litter is marketed as easier to carry and “just as effective,” but the reality is you’re paying more for less product. Sure, it’s lighter—but that’s because you’re literally carrying less litter while paying more for it. Regardless of the efficiency claims, you still need 3-4 inches to properly fill a litter box. This means you’ll have to buy more of this overpriced, smaller package just to get the same coverage as before. It’s a lose-lose for the consumer and a cash grab for the seller. Bring back the regular litter, Target!

I don't like the plastic strip you tear off to open it, it is very hard to rip off without it breaking. I usually have to use a pair of pliers to get the remainder off. Wish the would make an easier open lid.
