Maybelline Lifter Gloss Lifter Plump Lip Plumper Gloss with Maxi-Lip - 0.18 fl oz

I was hesitant to buy this because of all the negative reviews. I had never tried a lip plumping gloss before, so I was naturally concerned when some people reported experiencing extreme pain. Confusingly, some people had zero pain and zero plump. While I cannot attest to batch consistency, some customers clearly left reviews without knowing what they were purchasing/how to use it. To the people complaining about the pain level: Plumping gloss works by stinging and irritating your lips to induce an inflammatory reaction. In other words, the pain creates the plump. If you cannot tolerate this, never get a piercing or tattoo. I have a high pain tolerance. The product does burn quite a bit, but it is nothing unbearable. Please do not let fear or pain stop you from getting this… it works!!! The burn also becomes less noticeable with each application. This gloss creates a veeeery noticeable plumping effect. People who know you will notice your lips are bigger. If you don’t want to have a conversation about your lips, you may need to go with a different gloss. The effect lasts on me for 4-5 hours. For the people who say the product did nothing: You have to apply it to clean, dry lips. No lipstick or balm. The chili extract cannot penetrate a lipid barrier. Plump aside, the gloss has a beautiful shine, lasts for hours, and has fine glitter you cannot feel. The packaging is lovely with a high end appearance. A man i know was fascinated by it… he said it looked like makeup from the future XD This photo was taken about 4 hours after application, after a night out with dinner and drinks. You can see most of the pigment and shine is gone, but my lips are still pouty and full! A few cons: The pepper flavor can migrate into your mouth and sting your tongue and throat slightly. Again, nothing intolerable, just slightly annoying. The price is a bit high for a small tube of drugstore gloss. Needless to say, i will be replacing my almost empty tube. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This lipgloss seriously burns! I’ve used lip pumping products since I can remember, and I’ve never had anything burned like this. It’s like eating spicy food and getting it on your lips. I do like the packaging and I like the texture of the gloss. It’s not sticky and it doesn’t settle and fine lines, but I don’t know if I would purchase again.

Love this! A little tingly, so you know it’s working. Not uncomfortable at all like other reviews said. Highly recommend!

Didn’t realize it would burn so much! Ouch! However it did plump the lips and it was a nice color. But I’m not using it again!

This lip gloss is amazing! It glides on smoothly, feels lightweight, and gives a gorgeous shine that lasts for hours. The formula isn’t sticky, and it keeps my lips hydrated throughout the day. It’s the perfect finishing touch for any look!

I inadvertently locked my lips. Not only did my tongue and lips burn for, so far, 25 minutes it also ruined the taste of my drink. While I like the color I don’t see any plumping effect. Will not use again!

Worthless! Not only does it burn, it does not plump at all. It is a zero for staying on. It seemed to disappear within 2 hours even though I was not drinking or eating. Do not waste your money on this lip gloss!

This burns. I'm constantly looking for a Buxom Dupe. I'm going to stop wasting money and stick with Buxom. I like the other Lifter gloss. But this plumping business burns.

I LOVE a good lip plumper. I saw the chili pepper on the bottle, I read the ingredients…I absolutely knew what I was getting myself into. Or at least I thought I did. This was an EXPERIENCE. First off, I’ve been looking for a good, deep red lip oil/gloss that wasn’t over the top. You couldn’t even tell it was the color “red flag” when applied. And that chili pepper oil…well…my lips looked like I certainly had filler and most definitely got “plump”….but it lasted 5 hours. My tongue went numb and nothing took the burning away! It certainly did the job but it was the definition of beauty is pain. I contemplated keeping it because it was awesome what it did to my lips…but ultimately decided that the color wasn’t want I wanted, and I just couldn’t put myself through that burning again, even for great lips!

Awful! My fault for not noticing the pepper. I tried it and immediately regretted it. It felt like I was eating it. It’s so awful. It’s being returned.

For all the ones complaining it burns or is too spicy then HELLO read the label ! It wouldn’t be a good plumper if it didn’t burn a little. I’ve had actual lip filler a few times in the past and ever since I always use a plumping gloss as well, all of the brands I’ve used have a tingly/burning effect. ->thats how you know it’s working !! I love this gloss bc it has that immediate effect and the colors are gorgeous! 10/10

Very painful to use either an awful taste

Absolutely not. This was Chili Pepper flavored lip gloss. The taste is over whelming. You wouldn't be able to eat or drink anything with this on without it making everything taste spicy. I assumed it would be like other plumpers with the heat and sting and maybe a hint of pepper but this is literally putting chili oil on your lips. Even after it dries, your lips taste like chili peppers. So I guess if you wanted to play a prank on a man you hate, kiss him with this on. Ruin his night.
