Q: Can I cut the sheet for a small spot on my nose?

submitted by Skm - 1 year ago
  • A: Hi Skm, Hi, thank you for your question about Mederma Silicone Scar Sheets - S - 4ct. Yes, the sheet can be cut. Our recommendation is to leave at least 1 inch beyond the edge of each side of your scar. Over time, wear and tear may cause the edges of the sheet to lose adhesion so you want to leave enough room to (a) ensure proper adhesion beyond the scar, and (b) be able to slightly trim the worn edges of the sheet off over time throughout the use of the scar sheet.

Heavy, Quality Scar Sheet

I had surgery on my wrist 6 months ago and in that time I have tried numerous different scar sheets, gels, and creams. My scar is rather large and because the scar is on my wrist there is a lot of skin tension from movement and my scar has developed into a keloid. I have very sensitive skin and these scar sheets have been the best product I have found thus far. The creams and gels are convenient, but if you are trying to reduce an old or major scar, they just don’t cut it. I really like these scar sheets because they are thicker. Other scar sheets, like Scar Away, are a very thin layer of silicone. They would roll up easily and were not durable through out the day, so I would never get very long use out of them. I would bend my wrist a few times and the sheet would be rolling up. I have had a much better time with the Mederma scar sheets. They are durable and stick much better to your skin. This is especially important if your scar is on a moveable joint, like mine. These have become my new go-to and they will continue to be!

Performed as advertised

I used these after surgery on my neck and my face daily for approximately 3 months. I could trim these sheets to fit my scars and I did wash each of them daily. Because the strips need time to dry, I had about a week’s worth ready at any given time to use so I had clean strips every day. After washing, the strips would curl up but once they dried they could be used again. Most important for me is that consistent use did smooth and flatten my scars. I wouldn’t hesitate to use again.

Wont’t last long enough to see results

I’ve been using these for less than a week. I have not noticed a difference in the appearance of my scar, which is fine, I know that takes time. The sheets don’t preserve well. I have cleaned them a couple times, the way it instructs in the instructions and the sheets dry rolled up and stuck together. This product does not last as long as it advertises; “Reusable for up to 21 days”. The sheets won’t last long enough to see results.

These scar pads have a great feel/texture to them. If you follow the directions, they stay on well. I used them on my feet (I had surgery on my big toes), and I didn’t have any issues with them not adhering to my skin or coming off when changing. The pad not only helped significantly with scarring, it added a nice protective layer to the sensitive incision area, making wearing socks and shoes more comfortable.

I'm prone to developing scars and keloids. This product will flatten the scar/keloid and lessen the pain. I've used it in the past and it takes three months of use to reach maximum improvement. I've had no problems with these patches staying on my skin (near my elbow) when I sleep.

I bought these scar strips for a recent surgery. I applied the strips as instructed, but they do not stick at all. It fell off within 5 minutes of application. I’m switching back to ScarAway.

Don't stick. Start to fall off within an hour. You can't wear them longer than 23 hrs per directions. Scar away clear silicone sheets are better, worn them all day without any problems with them sticking, and you can wear them 10 days in a row.

I wanted to like these. My biggest problem with them is keeping them on. They come off when changing clothes. I think the box says you can keep it on for multiple days, however I couldn’t keep any on longer than 1.

Worth a try

I read a lot of negative reviews, but I am getting desperate to reduce the appearance of my keloid scar so I bought it anyway. I’ve been using it for a couple of months almost nonstop. I don’t wash with soap like the instructions say because I read reviews that their silicone sheets stopped sticking after washing. I do rinse with water a couple of times per week. My scar is starting to appear less intense in color and feels less hard. I know this isn’t going to work miracles, but I do believe my scar is looking slightly better. This is after my scar stopped improving in appearance for about a year. Worth a try in my opinion, just look out for some offers so you don’t have to pay so much.

helpful after top surgery

My surgeon told me to use some kind of silicone strips starting a few weeks after top surgery. These are expensive, but are thicker and holding up a lot better for me than scar away strips and plain mepitac. You have to take them off before showering and wash them daily (I use a drop of Dr. Bronner's on each with warm water), then let them dry so they get sticky again. A strip of mepitac is helpful to secure any loose ends in the armpit area, and once you get a piece of lipo foam and compression on top they are not going anywhere. It's only been a couple weeks but my scars are looking good.

Does Not Work on Keloids

1 out of 5 stars
Thumbs down graphic, would not recommend
Msseemaa - 3 years ago, Verified purchaser
I recently bought this to use on my keloids to flatten and soften. Even though they were “softer” it was temporary. But I wanted this to primarily flatten my scars and it didn’t. The adhesive is terrible!!! It states to keep it on your scar for at-least 12 hours. But that’s impossible because the gel sheet falls off, it doesn’t stick like it should. It’s not worth the money and definitely not reusable. I tried to reuse them the following day after wearing to sleep. It doesn’t work.
