My 4 year old grandson loves learning and then teaching others, so I scooped this up when he became interested in the human body. We read a great book with all the body systems and this just seemed the perfect follow-up.
The children love to play with these

I've been waiting for the moment my daughter asked any question about anatomy to show her this Human Body Play Set. I appreciate having this really cool anatomy lesson, I'm sad that I have to find an artist to make it look more like my daughter.

Please add an extension pack to this “toy” I use it in my classroom and I would love for the children to be able to choose from more diverse skin-tone choices and children of different nationalities. It would create an entirely new learning experience in the classroom or at home that most people (I do know that some people are born with disabilities and have anatomical differences) have the same parts on the inside no matter the color of their skin or nationality.

I like this as a tangible way to teach my toddler about the human body. But the magnets aren’t strong enough to hold more than one piece to the body frame at a time. So you end up with the different parts moving around when you stack them. I wish they had a different approach.
Good concept, poor execution, no diversity

I like that the pieces come in a storage tray with sections. The pieces of are definitely made of good wood quality and are perfect thickness for small hands to maneuver. It’s definitely a good product for teaching body parts/systems but felt like there were some huge misses here. 1. The storage try has no cover or lid so if the parent or child isn’t diligent about storing then the pieces can easily end up lost since they can be sealed away after use. 2. The mannequin body comes with a carved out pedestal, if you will, to give it more stability when working with the pieces, but I guess the assumption would be that all of the pieces would be dumped out and play would occur in a flat surface. The issue is that the labels for all of the body parts is on a non removable sticker on the bottom side of the tray so if a child is playing with the product and pulling the items from the storage tray, the learning points aren’t maximized because they can’t see the diagrams on the back unless the adult is telling them what they need to know. It would’ve been incredibly helpful to include maybe a laminated version of the diagram on the back that could slide into a carved out slot in the front of the tray and remain propped up during play to help navigate learning a little better. 3. My biggest issue with this is not the anatomically correct details, as many mentioned, but it’s actually that the mannequin and all the pieces are depicted as Caucasian. There are several pieces that show body parts/skin tone/hair texture and they all reflect brown/blonde haired blue eyed little girl/boy. I take issue with this because I have a mixed race child and this is not a product that she can openly identify with. It pains me to think that the thought behind the creation of this product was genuine (I hope) but was naively explored and poorly executed in essence of capturing the true breadth of all the differences that kids need to see when learning (I.e. different hair colors, textures, eye color, skin tones, etc. ) about themselves and others around them. It was a very narrow minded gesture - which could be an innocent miss, but it definitely made a statement to me. I almost wanted to return it but decided I’ll just make edits to the pieces myself at home - like always. I’m disappointed in this product and I’m usually an avid fan of Melissa and Doug. I don’t know if I’ll continue to support as much beyond this.

We just purchased this puzzle for my 3 year old son. It made it easy to talk about the human body parts. And once again I love Melissa and Doug even more, this puzzle made it easy to talk about the boy and girl parts with my son- which is developmentally appropriate for our 3 year old who is curious. I love this company.

Excellent way to teach children the names of body parts. Brought to use in child therapy sessions.
