A: Hi there, thank you for your question! For best results use the Melissa & Doug Ms. Rachel Wooden Song Peg Puzzle in bright, direct light. When you remove a puzzle piece from the board, you will see a little circle, which is the light sensor. Please ensure that the sensors are not covered. Once the sensor has been exposed to light, you will hear the sound. We hope this helps!

I really wanted to love this puzzle but I hated it. I had to toss into the trash 3 days after purchase. To begin with the sound doesn't work at all, it plays whenever it wants to. Secondly, the wooden puzzle chips very easily, making it a safety hazard for babies and toddlers. I DO NOT RECOMMEND at all!!!

It has to be in VERY bright light to work properly. It doesn't play the music half the time which is disappointing and I know my grandbaby thinks so too because he just stares at me when it doesn't work.

When you remove a puzzle piece from the board, you’ll see a little circle, which is the light sensor. Depending on the style, once the sensor has been exposed to light, you’ll hear the sound OR when you place the puzzle piece back on the board. Just a quick note about our sound puzzles: they’re light-activated, so once you’ve installed fresh batteries, it’s best to use the puzzle in a well-lit room. When you lift a piece off the board, you’ll notice a little circle, which is the light sensor. You will hear the sound when the piece is removed from the board and the sensor is exposed to light. If playing with your puzzle in a well-lit room does not make each piece “sound off” consistently, please call us at 800-284-3948 when you happen to be near the puzzle and our customer care team will be happy to look into it for you. Doesnt work even in bright light
Put the batteries in, turned in on and it wouldn’t work. Tried to use a flashlight directly on it to see if that would help even though all the house light are on. Didn’t work, changed batteries and tried again. Still didn’t work.

The light aspect of this is irrirating, but good quality puzzle
I like this puzzle, but don't love it. I think it's a neat concept that it'll play the music in the light, but we can't always be in direct sunlight with this puzzle. I end up having to shine my flashlight on it for my toddler so that it works, which is very annoying as he'd definitely play with this independently for a long time if it worked without having to be blasted with light! The quality is great and I love that it is wooden & has the pegs which are amazing for fine motor, the light aspect of it just irritates me especially because you have to put batteries in it anyways so why can't that just work? I don't know, I think that was a very poor decision making on whoever decided that because my toddler can't be sitting in a chair right next to the window or sitting on the couch by the window unattended?? So I'm not sure who they thought was going to be playing with this? A 5 year old who can trustworthily sit right next to a window or bright light? Like come on Ms. Rachel, we love you girl but like really do you use this with your own kids Rachel? Anyways, it's fine but just know you have to use your flashlight or something for the sounds!
