Q: Can a toddler use it for constipation?

A: Benefiber is a good alternative for small children over MiraLAX. The difference is that one is fiber and the other a laxative. Our pediatrician recommended Benefiber over MiraLAX explaining that the body will not get "addicted" to fiber, as it can with a laxative. It's like eating too many carrots! Fiber won't hurt you and it will keep the bowels regular to avoid constipation. Benefiber sold over the counter. It is tasteless, odorless and colorless and comes in generic form as well. We mixed in our child's water, juice or milk and he never knew it was there.

I would do a Google search, and you can see all the studies being done on the issues that parents have seen with giving it to a toddler/child. We ended up getting Culturelle Kids Regularity and it has helped a lot.

I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews of this product. Especially on packaging and labeling. Packaging is fine. Even with arthritic hands I am able to open it with ease. Aside from needing strong reading glasses to read the labeling, the labeling is actually just fine. As far as the product goes. I suffer from regular constipation issues thanks to all the meds I'm on. I use Miralax and mix it with soda and I can't taste it at all. No grittines or foul aftertaste. Works gently and quickly. Helps give me a normal life. It's a great product that I trust in highly. Again not sure why people have such negative reviews but people love to gripe about anything anymore.

I am prescribed this laxative by the doctor. The last two bottles that I bought had flakes that will not dissolve. I have had this happen before, and it is expensive to have to throw it out. Most of the time, the powder dissolves, but now and then a bottle will have these flakes.

After my discectomy, I initially received a prescription for Senna, but I found that MiraLax worked much faster to relieve my constipation. I only took half of the recommended dosage, and I was pleased to have a bowel movement the very next morning.

This is the only laxative I use. It’s effective. I usually mix it with water and I don’t taste anything, packaging is great because the cap measures the amount you need to take. The most important reason why I love this laxative powder is because it doesn’t give me painful cramps like dulcolax does. I recommend this laxative powder!

Unfortunately, my review is about the packaging, and not the product. The product label requires that you peel back the top layer, to read the documentation under the top layer, and the directions for usage., When I peeled back what I thought was the top layer it turned out to be the whole label which was now loosen my hand. And It was impossible to separate the two layers to read, all the instructions inside. I ended up throwing the unused bottle in the garbage in frustration. It was only later I realized I probably could read the instructions here on this site. Oh well, that’s my lesson learned. But going forward I will try to avoid any products that use this type of labeling.

My daughter struggled with constipation. We cut out orange and yellow food (mostly fruit) as recommended by a pedestrian. It didn’t improve anything. We requested a gastroenterologist and she said to use this product. My daughter was only 2 at the time and was surprised she could have this but so happy she told us about it. We didn’t like the other methods. The chewable tablets were harsh on her stomach and not a long term solution. The doctor insisted to keep using MiraLAX for a few years until things got better. It doesn’t affect her large or small intestines. She’s been on this for 3 years now and have never looked back. It’s improved her mood and over all health.
