a good guitar but needs work

I will start out by saying this is a good guitar for the price. I chose to give it only 2 stars because I want to warn parents that purchase this guitar for a beginning student. This guitar is good but will have to be repaired by a qualified luthier right out of the box. The problem is unlevel frets that cause some notes to die out when bending. If Monoprice can fix this issue, then I would give this guitar 4 stars.

The neck and body wood are great, providing excellent tone. The look and feel of the guitar out of the box was flawless. Came with a gig bag and tools for the truss rod and bridge adjustment. I adjusted the string height a tad and turned it quickly into a daily go to guitar. It is fairly light too (in weight) to my surprise. Just can't beat the feel of a maple neck w/rosewood fretboard with a finish that is just as sweet as my Fender Tele.

I got this on sale, so it was even cheaper than normal. I honestly can't fault anything major on it at all. It's crazy how good some cheap instruments are with the advent of CnC machines. It twangs just like a tele should, so when i need that sound, i got it for less than the cost of a dinner date. bonkers good

Great looking. Delivered in perfect condition. Can't find a flaw. No buzz, good action, holds tune. Still have original strings on. I have a cheap amp and the guitar sounds great. Best $ I've spent in a long time.
Ok quality, needs a lot of work. Good entry-level starter guitar if you have experience in making modifications and want to spend extra $$$ on replacement parts.

The title of this one says it all. The tuners are extremely poor quality and will need to be changed out for something of higher quality. The nut is made from cheap plastic and is poorly cut. It too will have to be replaced. The barrels on the bridge set up will also be replaced, they are a cheap allow and need to be swapped out for brass. Surprisingly, the pickups sound ok and the intonation was very good. At MSRP, there are much better guitars out there to consider, and considering the additional $40-50 I will have to spend to make it playable, I'll take a pass. If Monoprice improves the quality of the tuners, nut and saddles this could be worthy of a higher ranking.

After buying a couple discounted models of strat and tele, both received were obviously previous returns with many flaws. Bad body seams, bad finishes, scratches, bent toggle, ill fitting neck to neck pocket, sharp fret ends ...Both were returned by me to probably be resold yet again. So be advised that when buying the discounted ones. Chances are pretty high that you'll get a previous return. They should at least mention that in the description. Either that or the quality of new ones has gone down quite a bit in the past year. They were not what they used to be that's for sure...Good luck.

I like the guitar. It needed a setup for sure but that's to be expected for a guitar like this. The only problem was that the nut was not cut well. Slots were too high on high E to A strings. The Low E slot was also way too low and wide. Its not a huge deal for me as I don't mind upgrading the nut. I plan on doing that sort of thing when I purchase a guitar in this price range.
This guitar needed little work to get it playing great.

I own several T-style guitars as they are my favorite. I have a couple Fender, a Dean Zalinsky hand-made, and one that I made myself. This is definitely not a Fender or a high quality Dean Zelinsky Tele. What is it then? It is a bargain Tele-style guitar for those who are just starting out and want a decent little axe. I had no issues with it out of the box. Frets were finished nicely. intonation was actually "spot on" out of the box. The only minus is that the strings and fret board were really dirty. My hands were black after initial try out with this guitar. This thing is heavy and feels very solid. I like it because I can beat the crap out of it and not worry about it getting damaged because it was super cheap. I really like the beefy neck. I have about 15 other guitars, and each one is its own thing. It doesn't make sense to compare this to my Fenders, it isn't a Fender. It is an Indio that cost 10% of the Fender cost THE BOTTOM LINE... is it worth the money?...DEFINITELY. If you have reasonable expectations you will be very pleased. Just buy it, play it, and enjoy it.
Finish is very nice. Just needs a good setup to play great.

I received one that is strong through with the 6 saddles, and not the classic style as pictured. Finish is pristine. It needed a few passes with a sanding block to smooth off the rough fret ends, but was otherwise playable after a tune up. The nut is cut too low on the A string so that will need some attention to fix buzzing. A few of the frets are high above the twelfth fret, so I think it will need some leveling, but for $69 delivered to my door, I was expecting to have some set up work to do before it's gig worthy. It's a very good starting point for a project guitar, so I'm happy since I bought it for that purposenin the first place. I'm ready to grab one of the other styles when they go on sale!
Not a good fit for me.

This particular model is I believe a lower end. The frets ends were sharp. The neck was actually not set correctly in the pocket. Causing the strings to be up much higher than they should be. This was not set up by a luthier anywhere that I could tell. I would have never let it go out like this. You screws to adjust the saddles up and down are of a low grade and the Allen wrench will stick and turn inside the set screw socket. It was not a good experience for me. I have bought the Indio model price deluxe models and the boardwalk model. Both those were pretty good shape. I like them both. So for $70 for this blue retro classic. I sent it back. Waiting on my refund.
An incredible value.

I love it. For the price, this is a slam dunk. Somehow what was supposed to be blonde, came white. I don't even see that they offer the model in white, but I dig it. Finish is perfect. Stays in tune. Very pleased. For my needs it far surpasses my expectations.

Amazed at what an awesome job Monoprice did with this guitar. I actually ended up buying another guitar from Monoprice because of the quality of these guitars. Seriously? take it from someone who was always skeptical about off brand guitars. These are worth checking out.

Looks great. Great paint and fretboard. Headstock has a very small knot but the finish over it is smooth - gives it some character. Action is good, plays well and sounds good. The open B string was ringing a little. It was fixed with a little work on the nut. This is common for any new guitar. The blue color is darker, and it was a little heavier than expected. As others have mentioned, a padded gig bag and Allen wrenches for the truss rod and bridge are a bonus. Well worth the money, especially on sale.
Barely OK

For the price I didn't expect muchThe guitar was practically unplayable when I received it. Sharp fret ends, high action, It needed a lot of work so it is not a beginner guitar. I have been playing guitar for 50 years ant in that time I learned how to make even a crappy guitar play well. So for me this was kind of a fun project but If you want a guitar that plays well straingt out of the box , this isn't it. Get a Lyx pro. Almost the same price but way better.

So, I rate this a five star because it's a it's a solid $90 guitar. Remember, it $90. Paint job is excellent?not a blemish on it. The pickups sound pretty good (ceramic). That is pretty much where the positives end. I bought this guitar to do an upgrade and it certainly needs it. Neck is straight and frets are good (only two are a bit high). Fret ends are pretty bad and need considerable filing. That's ok I expected that to be the case.I sanded down the neck and refinished with linseed oil. Fret board very dry?good oiling and it look great. Polished frets. String height was terrible. Replaced the plastic nut with bone. Lastly, bought inexpensive locking tuners. That's it for the neck. Upgraded the pick guard and copper foiled everything. Also upgraded the tail. New strings and done?for now. I bought this guitar as a project and it was that. Pickups need to be upgraded at some point. I am giving this guitar to my grandson for bday. Plan to spend some time..plays wonder now.
